Is this forum only for posting individual items, or can we post things that we sell as a business?

Any forum-related selling, trading or bartering is invited, so long as it falls within the other forum rules as to content. Promoting our farms or businesses is encouraged. After all, for the small-scale grower, where exactly does "business" leave off and "personal" begin? For me at least it's not cut and dried.

How about this for a start.... I'm looking for triple crown berry plants from the southwest US.
Thanks,

scakya,
You should make a new thread for that so if someone sees a thread titled " WANTED: Triple Crown Berry Plant" and they have it they can respond to it there...they may not read this thread since it is called "What can we post here".
:p

scakya - Ooops, sorry for the typo error...it should have read "Triple Crown," instead of Tripe :)

Thank you for the link. Sorry about taking so long to get back, have been busy cleaning up our new farm, building raised beds, repairing/replacing barns and fences and much more.
The link you provided also had some things we had been looking for like dewberries and boysenberries. Grew up with those in upstate NY and think they will do well in a protected place here in central New Mexico.
Many thanks again,
scakya

Hi Silent,
Will be honest, the only reason I'm inside right now is due to windy conditions and some pretty chilly temps. So, have been planning and planning on growing my crops next year and determining how energetic I feel about building another handful of beds. Also got an itch to design an edible forest in what's left of the house yard(house 1 acre-farm 24 acres). Actually have that designed, just need to finish up on some other things like barn doors needing replacing and a roof that needs a little TLC on that same barn. Always something to do!
Hope you're staying warm,
scakya

We have lots of snow right now Scakya.....still, it's a good time for planning.
Finally got a new place but, somewhat sadly, it's in town. On the other hand 'urban' gardening is a new challenge since I've always lived in the country. We have a (relatively) large lot so I can grow our own veggies and fruits; I'll be giving OOA and OOM families in the area some 'folding green' for meats, eggs, milk and dairy products. While I would prefer to provide my own I've no fear about the quality they will provide.
I have rigged up composting bins by drilling air holes in black plastic bins and have filled with a combination of mixed manures (horse, goat, chicken, and cow) shared with me by an old friend who uses organic methods, leaves, peat moss, and mushroom compost; with a liberal handful of greensand in each bin. We've built 3 4'x12' raised beds this year and will be adding 2 more next year and the following year. This, along with numerous containers, should supply us nicely all year 'round with one bed dedicated to raising veggies to share with a nearby homeless shelter.
Adding fruits will, of course, be a slower process. The yard had been badly neglected for years and we will have to remove some trees, etc.... As we get the yard cleared out I will be adding espaliered apple and peach trees, Nanking cherries and native plums, and a couple of hazelnut trees as well as a strawberry bed, grape arbor, raspberry bushes, and container-grown blueberries. These will not only supply us but provide extra for trading, etc...
Since town regs preclude keeping livestock I'll have to satisfy myself with rabbits...but again, they can be traded for other needs/wants.

Hi Silent,
That sounds great. You are doing your best with what you have and there is nothing wrong with that! Rabbits are good for a few things too, besides their wonderful manure, so for you it's a win/win situation.
You sound kind of resigned to having to live in town, so it tells me it's not your idea. You are doing what you can to accomodate your desire to be a "growy" person and that is great! And look at what you are doing, that's incredible!
Out where I live, pretty self-sufficient because have to be. But, I chose that. This small farm came about as a result of me working at an animal shelter and a large number of barn cats left here without food or water. The farm had been abandoned and the property trashed. This dropped the value to where we could buy it. It has been a lot of work, something that will continue with the many projects needed to get a farm in the black, which it should be this coming year.
Many people looked at this place, but for them, the seven miles of dirt road and remoteness scared them off. For me, the quiet is wonderfull.
Do the best you can Silent as that is what you can do. I'm sure that in no time at all, your new lot will shine with the bright colors of a garden well loved.

Considering "snickers" was followed by "rotfl", I would consider it a friendly snicker. Although since the word was pluralized, I suppose BigRed could have been referring to Snickers candy bars, but neglected to capitalize the word.

A snickers bar is not a piece of mere candy. That's like saying a redwood is a bush. Or Lake Pontchartrain is a puddle. A snickers bar is a small piece of Heaven here on earth. If you want a true delight, put it in the freezer for about an hour. Ah. De-light-ful!
This is the only thing outside of dark chocolate I eat when it comes to sweets. I lurve....LURVE snickers bars.
