I find myself frequently unable to answer questions about what's organic and what's not with absolute certainty. This list changes occasionally, so check for updates when you aren't sure. This website should answer most of these types of questions, but I believe there may be slight differences between certification programs. Anyway, when in doubt, check it out!
[For some reason the address doesn't work when you click on it, so you'll have to follow the same search steps I did to find it, I guess. If anyone knows how to straighten this out, by all means...]
-(aol)search: national organic program allowed synthetics
-the first site on the list was: NATIONAL LIST: regulatory text
-click on this and the address works... you'll get the allowable synthetics, nonsynthetics, inorganics, and so on...
