I know this sounds crazy, because our lowest temps in zone 6 are about -10 F, but I'd really love to grow olive trees here. A guy from the forestry dept. said I could use smudge pots whenever it's below 15 degrees, but I read somewhere that there are Hungarian (? somewhere around there) olive trees that are hardy to around 10 degrees - much closer to our actual low temps. Most olive trees are only hardy to about 17 degrees... My question is, does anyone know where I can buy extra cold hardy olive trees? I can't seem to find them offered, at least not on an English website. :(

Johno,
i posted these guys on here before, they are out of tifton georgia, they have much milder winters than we do in the atlanta area so i am not sure about the cold hardiness of thier olives. but they have many varieties. i work alot in south georgia so i stop by there on occasion and they are really nice folks so call them up and i am sure they would answer any questions.
the website is tytyga.com
they also have an american olive, which honestly i know very little about..rick
