Just wondering how much spending $ everyone puts aside for the festival and what goodies they hope to spend it on.
I know everyone gets seeds, but what else? I have only been to the one in April so I have no idea what type of vendors are usually at the August one.

What was the April one like? I've never been. How much did you spend?
Thanks,

Our family moved here from South Dakota right before the August fest last year. We were out and about and saw the cute little veggie shaped signs on the side of the road for " Garden Show". Following them, discovered it was at Baker Creek and got really excited because the magazine subscriptions we take interviewed Jere, and, being homeschoolers, viewed the place as good inspiration for our kids.
OK, so to answer the question: We are six people. $2 admission for adults we don't count 'cause they gave a $2 seed packet for each. We went both days and spent probably 50 bucks. I bought an apron, sweet grass and lemon grass plants, a pie, iced tea for all, Clyde's garden planner ( He was there with his family), and some seeds. Since then, however, I have spent 150 bucks at the store on seeds and a book. Keep in mind that all this stuff is what I was going to buy anyway (not impulse spending - even the pie ;) ). Everything is really reasonably priced. There was a seamstress with historic wares, chuckwagon, didjeridu, planters made out of rocks, lots of plants and produce, a portrait painter, solar stuff, water distiller, metal detectors, knives, fake flowers made by kids, rubber mice, pottery, books, and all other manner of items useful, and useless around the homestead. Just the entertainment and information are worth traveling acrooss the country and spending a year's salary.

We are planning on coming to the festival in the Motorhome. However, we heard that the roads were not "big rig" friendly. We could park in Mansfield and drive to car to the festival. What say ye?

Way too much! : ) We missed last year, but are looking forward to later this month. In addition to all the wonderful seeds, plants and flora, many fine artisans have crafts and goodies to buy. Loaded up on hand made pickin' baskets, hand-made braided rugs, home made honey, fresh baked apples pies (yes, they went home with us), garden signs, some tee shirts, natual soaps, a great new garden tool, and mcuh more. For me, THIS IS my vacation. And I am hoping to also find a new puppy to bring back home.

The roads seem to have gotten better in the last year or so. We were just down there a month or so ago.
As for what do we spend? It's easy to drop $50 or so. We always have a good time and I usually find several things that I can't live without.

We always buy our tomatoes there because we don't bother starting seeds ourselves. We had amazing good luck last year with out tomato plants!
Of course, we buy seeds (whether we need them or not LOL).
I usually spend about $30 more or less. If I can find some habanero plants I will spend more! Last year they had a book store there (back40?) and I regretted not buying some books there. Most likely I will buy them this time and I expect that the total bill for the day will be more than $100

Now that its over I spent about $100.00 not counting gas to get there its about 90 miles or so. Bought seeds and clematis and tomatos, peppers and herbs also bought a cute little hen & chicks plant. Brought back 2 plants for my Mom too. Tried to buy a plant from every booth that had some. Wish there were MORE food booths though. Lines were long at lunch time. I also wish someone could sell chickens, poultry ect... I would have bought some bantam hens. All in all it was a great time and next one would like to camp and get to know more people.
