That sounds like what my BP cucumbers plants are producing too - big fat juicy cucumbers in no time. Is this normal????

Boston Pickling Cucumber
58 days. This classic dates from 1880. Medium-green, black-spined, blunt-shaped fruit are crisp and mild, and just the right size for pickling. Not as rampant-growing as some, but still very productive.

My first year of them too. Same thing with mine. They go from miniscule to as big around as long in what seems like hours. Can't pickle them whole, and that's the reason I grew them. I'm kinda bummed.

Ive been growing them for the last 2 year's and they do grow fast. You have to go out every day and pick them for just the right size for pickling. I learned that after the first year. They are very prolific and fast grower's.
As long as Im out every day checking on them and picking them I get lot's just the right size for pickling whole. They are very good. I dont mind some of them getting large cause I just use those as cukes I slice.

We do like making pickles and I want to try stir frying cucumber. My husband doesn't like cucumbers, so I haven't grown them until this year, but I couldn't resist all the interesting heirloom varieties. Being addicted to FOOD, he will eat my new concoctions and maybe expand his likes to include cucumbers.
I have Boston Pickling (planted outside and got poor germination, probably because of cold ground). In cold frames, I also have lemon (a free gift from BCHS), Poona Kehra (which was a very poor germinator here, maybe because it was too dry???), and Japanese Long (which germinated the best of all. I'm still waiting for a cucumber. They are all in the flowering stage now. It's been cold (in the 80s for high and in the 50s for low) and we need to put the ends back on the cold frames.
Does anyone want to regale me with sweet pickle recipes, stir fry recipes or any cucumber delicacy they recommend? Surely I WILL get some cucumbers!!!

I'll have to look it up - will post later. But basically cut cukes into small chunks and add to salsa canning recipe.
