I have some questions regarding self-sowers and hardy reseeding perenials. Do they have special germination requirements? I was thinking of scattering seeds of the following annuals and perennials on the garden this fall ;poppies :oriental.california, icelandic, and blue., bachlor buttons, dianthus species: pinks, and carnations, also some columbine, wild and hybrid, and maybe some amaranth as well.. any thoughts would be appreaciated. Thanks Mobi

Just make sure they don't get washed away by erosion or covered up with too much soil or humus. As long as they are okay in your zone they should do fine then. The warmer, later season ones I usually have better luck with if I plant in the spring.

Thanks Zebraman and Johno! ! I am hoping they will have a good germination rate, and then I will be able to use more of my seed starting trays for plants that need a lttle extra TLC or a longer warm season than my zone 5a would provide .Mobi

Hi Mobi,
Columbine sit right on top of the soil and need direct sun light in the spring.
