Just want to see how many hits this gets...a negative thread. Sort of a social experiment...sorry if I offended anyone with the subject title.
Seems positive , or other...threads , seem to get fewer hits.. while"National Enquirer" type of threads garner all of the attention.

Are you in some kind of competition to see how many hits your posts get?

No.. but thanks for replying to my Experimental Thread.
BTW: why did you respond? The negative tone of the thread/subject title? Like I said.. It's An Experiment...just curious.
PS: to all:
Have a good day... take care/not offense... as this thread isn't meant to be offensive...just an experiment...on do negative threads(subject titles) get a lot more hits, than say, "positive' news/threads?

How about Aquarium Fishes?
Could talk about keeping Brackish Fishes... kept Scats, Monos, Chromides, Gobies, and a Milk Spotted Puffer(can't find them anymore),
Target Fish, Archer Fish,Columbian"shark" catfish,...etc..? Got our first scat in 1988, iirc...Green Scat...http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Brackish%20Water%20II.htm
The archer fish... we had one in 1989(along with a new tank).
We got the tank, and had to drain it, and return it the next day. There was water running from the top of the tank, down the side.
We got another tank...and a few days later.. same thing.
We were ready to give up, when we saw the Archer fish(the tank top was glass) was shooting a stream of water( "spitting") at a fly, on the top of the tank(they can hit bugs, and knock them off of
low lying branches, near water..in the wild... and it was trying to shoot down this fly... and the water was running from the top of the tank, on down one side...again. We told the pet shop owner, and he got a laugh out of it. The fish didn't live long...but we found out they do best in groups , odd numbers... 5 is usually good...but then you need a 55 galllon, and can't keep much else. Really liked this type of fish.
Could talk about Central/South American cichlids.... like Centrarchus(we had 'em before. .. nice fish..can't find them in shops, since about early 1990's, or so, at least where I live(d)....
or "Jack Dempsey" , Salvin's Cichlid(or sometimes called Salvini's, very colorful fresh water fish...rivals some salt water fishes, in color)...
had "Oscars", Pacu's(not a cichlid...but, they are from South America... iirc...it's been 15 years, or more.. ...), Green and Gold Severums,
Geophagus, etc....
http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/photo.html
The spouse started the fish keeping in 1988...but got tired of it in the earlu 1990's(she likes the fish...but not cleaning the tanks/filters, etc...).
We went from 7 tanks(iirc) in 1990, down to about 4 tanks in 1994, down to 2 tanks(iirc)... in 2000, down to 1/55 gallon right now, with Brackish fishes.
Had a tank with African Cichlids in them... until 5 days of no power, 4 years ago.. killed them all.
Had Victorian(Lake Victoria.) cichlids, with a 7 striped Frontosa,(originally found in Lake Tanganyika(sp?) and a few others... "mixed" breed types....very colorful/interesting fishes.
http://www.allcichlids.com/
Besides brackish fishes.... this would be top 3 favorite fish we owned...this type( last one we got was in the early 1990's)....

I forgot to add: We kept Discus back in 1989( they had "Discus Flu"...didn't make it).
And we also kept Saltwater for nearly a year, in the 1990's. A 55 gallon.
Had a Mandarin Goby, Clown fish, Flame angel.... and a few others.....
Takes time to set these up...and they can be delicate to keep.
Brackish( which, when adults, most of those can go to the Ocean(salt water tanks).
They can go from saltwater, to brackish, to nearly fresh water(they can tolerate fresh water, when young... and as adults...but do best with some salt in the tank).
We use "ocean" mix/salt.
African Cichlids did the best for us( outside of a few from Central America)....
they seemed to be less susceptible(sp?) to Heximita.
I think any fish can get Heximita...but just seemed to us the South American, and to a lesser extent..Cental American cichlids, got Heximita.
So, for us, the "toughest" fishes are Brackish(they can live in almost any water type).
We also have kept "silver dollars"...they aren't cichlids, or brackish...but fairly sturdy fish.
We also kept one of these, but it got too big for the tank.. and luckily, we got a pet shop to take it.
Very friendly fish... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacu_(fish)

PS: the reason why(after this tank of fishes are gone)..... I am quitting the hobby? Well, when I lived 10 miles (or less) from the beach areas...seemed for every 20 people... there was someone with a fish tank(in the military... it was even more... about 1 out of every 6 or 7 people, had 1-2 aquariums).
We had people that came over to check out how the tanks were set-up, the fishes...etc.
I went to 2 homes, of people I worked with.... and checked out their tanks.
Once, we went to a co-workers house(about 17 miles away... after we did some running around, on a Sunday).... and he and his spouse showed us his 2 tanks... then we invited him/wife to our place... and they checked out our tanks(the guy only really like one set up...but he did ask spouse...who set up the tank/decorations, about them... and I mentioned the fish types...both of us did... they really enjoyed the visit, and so did we).
I had another guy, who gave me a ride home, stop by his place, and show me his Saltwater Aquarium set-up..which was cool.
When we moved to another state... the guys from the ship came over and bought most of the fishes.
I felt like a pet shop, for one day.
People talked about fish. One guy had a 125 gallon aquarium.
Another asked me about some fish.
It was fun.
Now... I only know one other person who keeps fish..unless I drive maybe 100 miles, and join an Aquarium Club(there are a few in Ohio). There were 4 families we knew, up until early 2000's, that kept fishes...but haven't kept them in years, for various reasons.
Anyhow... I like the fishes.... but, part of it was this "community" of fish keepers/hobbyists...that was part of the fun. Same for pet shops. Three out of four have closed, in 8 years.
Also..the past few years.. the prices for filters, media, etc.... have went sky high.....and that's going through a "discount" store.
For a 55 gallon tank, it takes 2 filter boxes( one was a gift...friend I know got them from another hobbyist, and he decided not to start up his aquarium, again... so gave me one of the hang-on-tank-filter boxes..) that are for up to 40 gallon tanks..... and then the other items... 125 dollars. Last year...it was 84 dollars, and in 2007, iirc... maybe 65-70 dollars.
So, for me...between lack of other hobbyists( like I mentioned early, the "community" thing, with other hobbyists, and even some talking with shop keepers, etc..before the closed a few years ago, due to lack of sales) around the area, and cost of keeping a fish tank(among a few other factors)...
I will enjoy these fishes until they are gone, and that will most likely be it.
I would be interested in a Pacu.... but, they get too large for most "normal" sized tanks.
I think they need 300 gallons, if you keep them "for life".
Many people are told they only get to be about the size of an "Oscar" fish...around a foot in length. I think these can get 2- 3 ft in length...these Pacus.
We had one.. and it got to about a foot in length.. but one pet shop took it.
One guy in SC(iirc) caught a Pacu(when we lived down there, in the 1990's) and tv reported it as a "Piranah"(sp?)...but after a few days, they reported it was checked out...and it was a Pacu, that , most likely, was put into the river, because it grew too large for someone's fish tank.
Sorry to digress.
Seems like at one time... fishkeeping was popular(or more than today?).
Oh..here are some fish most people probably have seen/kept, or maybe knew someone who had them:
Oscar
Silver Dollar
Angel fish
Mollies.
goldfish("fancy", or regular)
koi
some types of catfishes.
These are just some , that people I have talked to in the past(who never kept fish) have seen/heard of before.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One Last Note:
Another reason for (sort of)losing interest(somewhat) is we keep losing power every few years.. and I have fishes that have been known to live(brackish) for 10-20 years(supposedly) in captivity.
But..when the power goes out...the fish die over a 1-2 day period, due to the cold....water temps drop, etc..
that's difficult to watch. And nowadays... nowhere I could take them.. to be kept(for a fee...one guy said $5 a day, if he has a tank open, but he closed his doors 4-5 years ago).....or even trade.
Almost lost the fish last March, of 2007. They were gasping for air... and would watch my every movement(we stayed in the bedroom, with our 1 small space heater, and the fishes are in the kitchen area)...when I walked in the room.
That may be tied for the Main Reason Why I will quit the hobby( they will most likely go through abother ordeal like that... like my one tank of fishes did, in 1995... took 2-3 days for them to die..and power came back on day 5).
Got very "lucky" last year. Power was out about 22 hours... and then came back on for about 12 hours..then off for another 8(or so) hours...then back on.
Temps in the tank dropped below 60 degrees...and these fishes can take maybe 68, and be ok,for a day or two...much colder...they don't make it.
They are used to 72-80(or warmer).
Anyhow... I will quit writing now... before my replies take up 1-2 more pages, on Aquarium fishes/fish keeping.

I forgot (this reminded me...what you said) to mention, in one of my posts..... that Pacu's can be (and usually are) eaten... caught as a food fish(maybe served with veggies, too?)...and are "pets" in many countries. ;-)
