I'm trying to find out when Asian melons are ripe. Specifically, Kazakh, Golden Sweet, and Sakata Sweet? Any information would be helpful.
Thank you.

I asked Jere about this, and he said that most of the Asian melons don't slip off the vine like a lot of the American types do. He says you learn to judge them by trial and error. Watch for color changes, softening of the flesh, and fragrance developing. Sorry this isn't too specific; hope it helps some.

I have some Armenian 'Tigger' melons growing. Do they slip?

Tigger is a little easier...it undergoes a dramatic color change. Develops red and orange stripes.

I planted Golden sweet and I am not sure if it is golden sweet that is growing. The biggest one so far is about 6" long and 3" wide, light green and pale green stripes. Anyone have any pictures of these melons in different growth stages? That would be very helpfull. I will try to post some pictures of my melons this week.
PS
How many weeks until harvest is the tigger melon, from flower to full size tigger?
Thanks

american melons, musk / or cantelope, slip from the vine , this is just the melonheads word for saying , when its ripe it falls off....
makes sense, its just called slip , cause ideally you want to catch them just when the stem is seperating from the fruit

Are there any asian melons that compare to, say, honeydews? The asian melons I've grown look cool and taste bland.

Hey Soapymama;Muskmelons do slip, however Cantelopes do not.for melons that do not slip the leaf opposite the melon turns pale and dies when the melon is ripe.when the color in the leaf starts to pale(will be noticable compared to other leaves)pick it.Regardless of how many people claim Charentais slip when ripe they do Not.-
