Just wanted to pass along that the Tillamook cheese co. in Tillamook Oregon has requested the dairys they buy from be hormone free. Read it in the Spfd Newsleader a few weeks ago. Making monsanto mad of course. I have seen this brand of cheese in a Walmart Supercenter before but don't know if they still carry it. Countrystyle :)

Thanks for the heads-up. The lack of labelling requirements re. milk and bovine growth hormone really chaps my hide. Like a lot of other things...

Let's recall that government interference, such as labeling requirements, at best is a double edged sword. Such requirements stand as huge hurdles to small producers, or rather potential producers hurting small farmers to the point of killing off the family farms and dairies, as well as making selection available to the consumer reduced to a very small group of mass produced major manufacturers. Also recall that this same interference is what causes the US to be unable to enjoy the vast variety of live cheeses available around the world, because the US government necessitates that all milk be pasteurized, killing off the natural organisms that give flavor and texture to the wonderful cheeses of the rest of the world.

Want to know what is in your food? Do not rely on a mindless bureaucrat of a dishonest politician, simply get to know the producer, the farmer or dairyman.

Cool, I like Tillamook cheese....mmmmm, their sharp cheddar (comes in the black casing) is delicious. Hubby & I met in So. Tillamook County (he grew up there).

Yes, our government & their crappy regulations. It's just like the tomato ban 2 years ago - which killed part of California's economy, and wasted a lot of tomatoes. Only to find out it WASN'T tomatoes that had salmonella - it was the peppers (or so they say!!). 1/2 billion $$ lost. *sigh*

I toured Tillamook in 2005 and they make excellent products. Kudos to them!
