ACK! The stinkin tree rats keep tearing up my little gnome garden!
They toss the the gnomes out into the yard, kicked over the table,I had a gnome house I made from a terra cotta pot and roofing shingle...they tore that up,ripping the shingle in half then ripped up the fencing and bent it. Alright now....whose spiking their acorns with steriods.

I'm going broke trying to feed the wild birds now that the %$#@! blackbirds have found the feeders and if they weren't so fast,I'd be shooting them with my bee-bee gun.

I had a lot of success trapping and removing squirrels last year. I took at least 6, maybe more (I'm getting old and forgetful!) for a ride to the community college.
First time in probably 2 decades I got a crop of hazelnuts off of my two bushes.

You need to invest in a Ruger 10/22 rifle ;)

hub's does thin out the herd during the hunting season but being nothing more than huge baby manufactoring machines,we can't keep up with the yearly population expolsion.
People driving by are probably startled by the crazy woman that peroidcally runs screaming arms a flapping at the living room windows. My bird feeders are just a few feet away from the windows so I can watch my birds but I just go nutzo when I look out and see those *&$! blackbirds scraffing up all my bird seed.:(

Hehehehe....
I recall fixing up a ''squirrel proof bird feeder'' for my Mom.
I had a thin chain out on the end of a limb of a Fruitless Mulberry tree....hung a good sized bird feeder at the end. Down the chain were obstacles to prohibit any critter's ability to reach the bird feeder.
hahaha...sure
I was watching them work together to get those very expensive fancy sunflower seeds....put out for BIRDS.
One squirrel sat upon one of the obstacles on the chain and made the bird feeder swing and swing and swing....another squirrel was hanging onto the trunk of the tree, and when the feeder swung his way he jumped and clutched with all his might, til he got his footing....putting his foot in the opening, dragging the seeds out so they would fall on the ground.
They both fought off other squirrels and those scrub Blue Jays for the seeds on the ground.
The neighbor had a huge..(i mean huge) bird feeder full of seeds...and he had about a 5 pound squirrel stealing from it...we found the squirrel inside the feeder, so fat he couldn't back out....looking at us through the Plexiglas......a real pig.
I don't have these issues on the farm cause my squirrels harvest acorns and walnuts all year long...thus I don't feed them. I don't feed the birds either cause they have all their ''ala nature'' fare.
But, city critters have a hard way to go....so do the Raccoons and Opossums that have migrated into subdivisions, and the city folks begin to feed them, then the babies are born under the decks, and these animals use pet doors and are found in kitchens...........some very infected with rabies.
I think it's the people who have lured these dangerous animals by feeding them.
And, all they wanted to do in the beginning is feed the BIRDS.
''Aren't they cute'' has turned suburban neighborhoods into zoos.

I hate the blackbirds around here.
When it's dry out they FEAST in my garden. Grrrrr
But they mostly leave the birdseed alone. I feed the birds safflower seeds, the squirrels don't like it as much either, although the squirrels will eat it from time to time.

bee bee gun! Right in the.....tail! Man, that's really destructive Peggy! I'd be mad too!
Now is it blackbirds or crows you're dealing with? I don't have problems with them at my feeder, but then I do have a young goshawk that hunts at the feeder.

We're rural and there's plenty of natural foods but these squirrels are gluttons....and as you can see from the rough treatment of my gnomes...Hoodlums! I had to quit growing sunflowers because of their theiving ways. I even planted extra just for them but they had to have them ALL. I don't eat rats..ICK!
They've been in my greenhouse too...digging in my newly potted up ferns for market. *%$#!!#%$!
Black Birds....the smalll guys not the big crows.I very seldom see a crow.

Live trapping is cruel. It means that you are taking your problem and passing it off on someone else.
How would you feel if someone dumped Squirrels/Mice/Cats/Coons that they didn't want on YOUR property.

We were told you need to take them 7 miles away or they come back.

Make that to someone's house you don't like 7 miles away.:D
But seriously, my mother in Chicago was obsessed w/ trapping them. She would count catches on the calendar. I think she broke 100 one year, then it began dropping down. It was sad, tho. Sometimes sometimes the little fluffy-tailed rats had a friend of similar description who was very upset by the capture. Unauthorized releases did sometimes secretly occur...
They brought it on themselves by destroying things like the tomatoes and papayas (she grew papayas in pots from grocery store seed). They will take one bite out of fifty pears or apples, before they're ripe and toss them on the ground. No manners at all.
We dropped them off in a large public park BTW, not an enemy's yard. ;)

On the south side of Chicago where I grew up, only gang members were allowed to shoot things they didn't like. LOL

Our local ag extension actually advises people to "Trap and release -- into the frying pan" when dealing with squirrel overpopulations.
