Gee, I'm sorry to be so late in posting this. Only this morning did the thought come that it might be of interest to some, even if not about gardens, etc.

Saturday, Oct 7th: Hurley's 2nd Fall Festival. 9am til late afternoon
(Hurley, population 157 and growing, is 7 miles south of Clever, about 20 miles SW of James River Fwy in Springfield, MO)
Expect a host of small town wholesome family fun events. Craft booths, live music, games, a parade at noon, antique cars, food, etc.
A country community celebration, refreshing in its simplicity and good will. Live music at 10, 1, and 3:00. I'm not familiar with the first two performing musicians. John Langley and the Spring River Band will have a reunion for the 3:00 performance. John is one out of sight fiddler! Makes me smile just to think of his music.
Booths are FREE! I'll be in booth #21 tucked under the trees. Don't know if any booths are left but they'll do their best to fit you in. Call 417-369-3420, City Hall, open 1-4:30 today, Thurs. Leave message anyway if calling later or Fri. Someone is bound to be checking. No special rules about what you can sell or exhibit as long as it doesn't offend the sensibilities and is appropriate for kids to see, etc. (Clue: seven Christian churches in and around Hurley)
Event is at the City Hall. Signs will be posted. Don't blink your eyes when driving through Hurley or you may miss it... town is best known for the WW Cafe, right on Hwy A, main street, where the pies are so yummy people drive from other counties to eat there. Opens at 6:30 am closes at 8 pm.

Update:
Speaking of senior moments (polite phrase for short term memory loss), John Langley plays a BANJO and sometimes steel guitar not fiddle. Still makes me smile! Bluegrass and gospel are main themes in these here hills and hollars.

I saw some other interesting festivals on my ARkansas tourism email this week. I'll have to sort through them and maybe post one or two.
Sometimes Dandy, I think it's almost better to wait til just before stuff like this to post? It means last minute planning, but for people with children and/or livestock, sometimes it's difficult to plan ahead. And for the older generation..well if you mention anything too far in advance..short-term memory and all...

Will Jere or anyone else from Baker Creek be there? Or is that Silver Dollar City thing still happening?

Really, this is a Very Small town event! That's what appeals to me.Music is performed on a small wood platform under open sky. Churches sell homemade desserts wrapped in saran on paper plates. The totally volunteer fire dept. show off their new truck. No glitz, yet. However, Hurley has just passed an ordinance requiring mandatory trash pick-up with a monthly bill to prove it. Who knows what's next... thankfully, still much to small for W_mart though periodic mumblings about a gas/convenience store can be heard.
Ozark, south of Springfield on Hwy 65, is having their huge Fall event this weekend, also. Thousands will show up for it. Crafters from several states and so on. Elbow to elbow, probably, for shoppers.
You've got a point about last minute posting, Blue. Yes, Arkansas has some big craft events at this time of year, also. I sold soaps at one of the biggest several years ago. Good sales but cost of travel and motel was high enough to discourage repetition.
For those who haven't worked one of these events, they are grueling! Can't imagine how Jere holds up for two weeks at Silver Dollar. Not expecting him here.

As much as I love events like this, if I go to Ozark to spend $... LAMBERTS!
After that, it's straight to the fabric store for elastic waistband extenders. oof
