Does anyone know a humidity-tolerant standard size heirloom tomatoe? I'm near the coast, and our "morning fog" wreaks havoc with anything I've tried so far. Cherry tomatoes do well, but I'd like to try some "heirloom" regular sized tomatoes. The hybrid "Celebrity" does well here, if that helps... THANKS! :)
(we are zone 10 here, San Diego, Pacific Coast)

Any of the regionally-adapted Ozark varieties should do fine as far as humidity is concerned. But I wonder if you have so much fog that your light intensity would cause problems with these. Anyway, Millionnaire, Tappy's Heritage, Flame, Mortgage lifter would all be recommendations. Don't know if this helps...

siberian tomatos do well in the heat. with a little 10-10-10 they do really well in 7 1/2" ceramic. large varieties: black prince/tula, russian rose, cherokee purple, marmande/super marmande. i have to grow in pots and planters due to the nature of the soil around here. this year my blacks did really well. i think my fav for next year will be russian rose. i only got one this year but it was inspiring. one thing about the black natured tomatos: they attract black beetles that will bite the fruit and leave it's digestive enzymes in the wound on the fruit which destroys the fruit in about a day. it was worth fighting them for every fruit, though.

Thanks! I'm going to keep an eye out for the varieties mentioned. I think I've seen a "purple" variety at the local farmers market...I bet it was the Cherokee! Thanks again.

i planted 8 13" tubs i bought from home depot. they each hold about 60 lbs of dirt. planted them with Moskovich. Like pickled melon, i had to fight beetles for the fruit. but they were awesome. it's kind of like a spicy tomato that tastes like hickory-smoked beef jerky.

Hi! Hey, ignore those detractors  :)
If you have any seeds that tolerate the west coast fog I'd love to try them. Its even about the right plant-date (we've been really cold for us...San Diego. Meaning "april" is late! LOL!) I'd even like variety names, but my plot is small, two or three or four seeds would be more than enough. I have seeds, too, from Baker Creek, anything you're looking for?
