The University of California Botanical Gardens is holding one of its twice yearly plant sales in early April.
I am planning on attending as I'm a student there and love plants now.
At any rate, there is a plant list. If anyone has been dieing to get their hands on certain plants (that are allowed in your state), I could purchase and ship them at your cost.
Here is the list: http://www.gardens.ucr.edu/events/UCRBotanicGardensPlantList042009.pdf
But, so this isn't off topic, has anyone ever been to something like this. I haven't. I don't know what to expect.

I went to one of the plant sales at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. Most of the plants they had for sale were cacti and succulents. I was disappointed in the lack of variety and the low volume of plants offered. However, I toured the garden, and I had a picnic lunch at the top of the garden/top of the hill, where there is a terrific view of the San Francisco Bay. I did enjoy my visit to the garden, although I didn't purchase any plants.

It looks like these guys have a great variety that will be available. I hope I don't go overboard. I think that some nice Native plants will lend themselves to water conservation.

PCKGRat, is there any way of knowing what their prices are like befor you go? There are a couple of things I would like to have (would like to have a ton of them but will use restraint) from that incredible list! How would you handle being reimbursed for them? Sounds really interesting.

As long as it is allowed, I suppose I could just ship them. I don't know about prices until the day of.
Wish I could be more help.

PCKGRat, it looks like they will only have 3 of what I would like to have and not knowing up front what they're charging would put a lot on you, very kind of you to offer to shop and ship for us. I envy you the experience, enjoy and let us know how it went. Thanks

That is incredibly kind and generous of you, Pkngrat! I much appreciate the offer.
I will try to PM you, if I see something I absolutely would have no other way of experiencing...(I saw Boronia on your list, and a few others I would love, but must confine myself to one, single, plant, since both space, and funds, are scarce at this time. How in the world to decide with a list like that???:D) Thank you.

If anyone really wants plants and is allowed to have them (I don't want to send anything that can't go to certain states to those states), then I don't have a problem trying to pack them up and send them. I don't know how, but I am sure someone can help.
If you are interested, PM me and I will give you my phone number or you can give me yours. I can call you when I go there and find out the prices. I obviously won't be able to figure out shipping until it ships. I just need a guarantee of honesty that you would pay for the plants because I don't have extra cash to lose.
I'm hoping to get there pretty early to find the best plants.
There will be Birds of Paradise, for people in that thread who wanted some in pots. Maybe I can call or stop by there tomorrow and get pricing.

Thank you, (this is so very nice of you!), and had I not just placed my Crimson Sage order, I would definitely take you up on your generous offer, especially since they have senecio radicansm which I've been looking for, & fragrant plumeria and boronia, (which smell heavenly!) on that list. Unfortunately, after reviewing our finances, and factoring in vet fees for getting a cat neutered, (this expenditure cannot wait), I find that purchasing any more plants would break the budget.
But I do thank you for the kind offer, PCKGRat...wish the timing on their sale was a little later, but oh well!
