One of my squash plants leaves are turning yellow... just one plant! They've never been outdoors, so I don't think it's borers or wilt... it's watered regularly and seem to be growing well other than the leaves starting to turn yellow... I read that it is likely an iron deficiency... what is a simple solution to this if this is the case? Is it something so simplistic as to crush up an iron tablet and put it in water and water it? I've not used any fertilizer or anything on any of my seedlings so far...

Thanks for the help! :)

I use liquid iron (diluted) or iron pellets in my garden. The pellets are called Ironite. I buy these items at garden centers. I use iron once a year for everything, plants and trees. I don't know about crushing up an iron tablet. You can try it. It should make a difference fairly quickly, if it does work.

I used the ironite plus pellets (I mixed the pellets in water and watered the plants with them... ) and now some of my plants are drooping over!! I have never used a supplement on plants before and I am freaking out!! I have a LOT of money put into these little guys as well as time! Is this normal?? What can I do if it's not?? Am I just out of luck?? HELP!!

Well, 38 plants died. Lovely. Never again will I put anything on my seedlings. It is heartbreaking, frustrating and it pisses me off.

I went to the nursery and the guy there gave me a generic version of Ironite - for less than half the price. It seems to be working. Another dose in a couple of weeks if we still have yellow leaves.

Oh oh, sounds like it might be damping off-I lost alot of tomato seedlings, too, so I know it's sad! If that's the case-it's not what you put on them, they would have died anyway. I never fertilize anything unless it's either in the ground or a full size plant-usually adds to the problem.

I don't think it's damping off- they don't have the skinny next to the soil. Also, within 5 minutes of watering them with the supplement, they just slumped over. That's why I am certain it was the Ironite that did it. :( I'm replanting seeds, I'll be a slow start, but it's better than none.

Sorry about your tomatoes! That stinks!

I am really sorry to hear about your seedlings. That is so sad. I think I would have cried.
Good wishes for your next round.

Are you sure they were not overwatered? I know yellow leaves can be a symptom of overwatering in house plants. Not sure about seedlings, though...we don't have cold weather, so I've never had to start seeds indoors.
