I have a Utility company that has been chipping trees and bringing me dump-trucks full of chipped trees
I know not to receive Black Walnut from here ( we don't have those here anyway )
What about Salt Cedars ...???
They will have a load of those tomorrow
anything wrong with eucalyptus , pine , Palo Verde, Mesquites ' ...???

Hi Space, I used them in Winslow years ago and they increased the akalai or at least thats what I blamed it on. Maybe if the other stuff is mixed in and its not straight S cedars it would be ok. Im jealous, I would love to have all that mulch!!Have a great Day!!!

Even black walnut is safe to use after composting...so pile them up, let them sit six months to a year, then use 'em.

Definitely compost them first. It takes a lot of soil energy to break down any wood chips so they rob the soil of what plants need. Especially nitrogen.

Also, cedars and other pines contain resins that make them resistant to microorganisms, fungi and other decomposers. They will take much longer to break down. Because they break down more slowly than a hard wood though, they should (in theory) deplete less nitrogen from the soil if you use as a mulch.

True enough. God or bad is'nt really the point it's just whether you mulch with something that will improvethe soil.I've used wood chips on paths and in perennial beds with no problems. I personally use more easily broken down materials on veggies beds.
