Ya!
You know I've been waiting and after
the hullabaloo this spring over the
seed I sent out for the Giant Marconi
red and the trouble folks had starting
them I re-ordered from seed savers
in hopes of catching the one I used to
grow as these are definitely not them.
Mine were a different red and grew
much larger but I bought into a bad
deal and passed it on.
Well, Ididget more seed and should have
more coming still soon enough.
I still have an unfinished mailing list that
I am going through at a snails pace.
I hope you can all forgive my lack.
They are coming and I will check to make
certain everyone is covered.
Meanwhile, I thought you all might enjoy a glimpse of the wrong red Marconi as just picked from the patch.http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll405/Da_First_Stringer/LatestGiantMarconiRed-3.jpg
I just pulled it and shot it just to have something to do with it besides show it around before giving it to K, Heheh

This pepper unlike the Flakkee will not be bigger than her, but it's gonna make her jump all the same.http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll405/Da_First_Stringer/LatestGiantMarconiRed-4.jpg
Now that's a two fisted pepper!http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll405/Da_First_Stringer/LatestGiantMarconiRed-5.jpg
SMOKEN"!

Hey Train,
Am I correct (or being the usual Dufus) in that you originally grew a Red Marconi or Marconi Red that was a giant of plant and pepper size and that the last batch was actually a Giant Marconi which is wonderful, but indeed a hybrid?!? I ask because I'm growing them both this year; whereas before I've only grown the hybrid Giant Marconi. This is one of my all time favorites for production, size, and taste (especially grilled!), but I want an OP type that I can save seeds from.

Thanks,
TimothyT.

Ya Tim!
You know I was shocked when Blane first called it
a hybrid because the one I started with was not.
Give me a few minutes because I'm gonna call
seed savers and ask once and for all.

Ya!
Okay Tim!
Let's put this baby to rest.
All seed sold by Seed Savers are Heirloom!
I just called and asked and that was their answer.
The first seed I sent out was from Cooks
Garden as all my saved up seed proved
useless.
So I bought seed and sent them out.
Then I found that they were not good so I
ordered from Seed Savers and am sending
those out.
The Giant Marconi Red Pepper I always grew
had a beautiful red pastel color that was unlike
any other in the patch. This one does not.
Both grow large but the other grew larger and faster.
I'll be starting more very soon and will
post my experience.
So, to answer your question, some are and not sure
about others but the ones I am now sending out are
and anyone wanting them sooner can get them at
Seed Savers.
Okay Tim?

Well, those Marconi peppers I planted are going to have buck up! They aren't doing all that well. They started out gang busters with growing and now they've gotten kinda puny with very few blooms and almost no fruit set.

That doesn't have anything to do with this post, except this is my first time growing Marconis and I did have high hopes and so far I've been underimpressed.

Any particular thing I should know about them, i.e., special needs, quirks? I bought cages for them because I've heard they need them, but so far, the cages haven't been needed.... :(

Peppers like phosphorous, Rozie. Bone meal is a good source.

Thanks, Lorna. I'm thinking that for some reason, too, they aren't liking all the water they are getting. I'm hoping they will grow for me; I want them REAL bad.

Ya Rozie!
Am I unhappy to hear your
difficulty in growing the Reds.
I know you to be a fine gardener
and so know you would have
well prepared your soil in advance.
So what can be the problem?
It is that time of season here
and I'm thinking with Lorna but
also compost, about a six inch
layer around each plant and
I might advise placement of
those mater cages now
because they are hard to get
in place later.
I really want to see you enjoy
these but should anything go wrong
I wil get more seed out to you.
In fact I will anyway.

Ive lost the seed packet.
I planted every last one of them.
I think they were from TGS or TT.
Gosh my bad, but I do remember this conversation Train.
I started the seed you sent me, and the seed I ordered from one of those companys.

I now have 2 very Healthy Plants, in containers, but I sware Ive dropped the ball on which company I ordered these from.
However, I do state that these are Hybrids.

I wish I could start a "Do-over"...but its too late now!
They are on their way!

No, Im not gona save seed from these, but I cant wait to place these on the grill and just enjoy what I have struggled with.
Not meaning to Jack this thread, but can I mention another variety of simular texture and size?
Well actually 2.
Big Jim...sweet, and also from Bonnie that seems to be a popular type this season...
CowHorn

I have a Cowhorn growing at my Work Garden, that is just freakly amazing right now.
Its a long, thick 10 inch monster, supposed to be sweet.
The others growing beside it are keeping up as well.
I need to take a pic and show ya.

Back to the Marconi.
I have noticed that these seem to get really tall, too fast.
Big leaves though..
I guess this a good sign. I have them staked and Caged, just for good measure.
Expecting to let them do what they will all summer long, then this winter, place them into the Greenhouse.
Following your lead on this Train.
I also want Marconis in Febuary. Ok Ive ramble on enough...
Cant wait to taste them, thanks and Dig on pepper folk!
