I just bought my Thai Red Papaya seeds. Am trying to determine how big a plant container to plant them in (live in S.E. Missouri).
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for container size, growing medium, etc?
Also purchased some Sunrise Hawaiian Solo Papaya seeds, sure could use comments and/or suggestions on these in regards to container size, growing medium, etc.
Thanks,
Mary

Not sure about Thai red, but the papayas that I know about (mostly Mexican) grow to around 8 feet. Since it takes a long time before bearing, one approach is to start seedlings in late summer or fall, overwinter the plants indoors or in a greenhouse, then plant outside after the last frost. They will bear toward the end of summer.
It is also to be noted that (for Mexican, at least) there are male and female papayas, and both are needed to make fruit, and the gender may not be obvious until it blooms.
For container size, start small, and then work up as the plant grows. Or maybe start several seeds in a 1-gal, then transplant to individual pots.

Thank you Songstone. I have one of those great huge red containers that fertilizer (for hay fields) comes in, got it in at a yard sale a couple of years ago, thought (was hoping) it will be big enough for my papaya plant(s).
What kind of soil would you recommend?
