Gotta share this with those who can appreciate it. :D In the early summer of 2003 I decided I was going to garden. It's EASY right? throw a few seeds in the ground and water. nothin' to it. I had corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, and cantaloupes kinda growing in the sand and clay we call soil here in Southern California. About 1/2 way through the summer I went out to my garden and said "Hey look how cute! the leaves are all polka dotted." You know what those polka dots were, right? aphids. Now that's a beginner. And yes, they ate everything before I figured out that the polka dots were moving. I never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed.

What a hoot! Thanks for sharing. We've all been there too, only some of us are too embarrased to share our stories.

Yup, we've all been there. And occasionally, one of these'll still creep up and bite me in the behind. It's always so OBVIOUS, after the fact....

Yup, you're not a real gardener till you've killed off at least....oh, a couple hundred plants! lol. Live and learn.

One year I decided I wanted to graft walnuts. So, I collected some Black Walnuts, and planted them in buried nursery pots for rootstocks. The next spring, none of them sprouted. Of course, the one the squirrel planted right next to a pot did, though!
By the way: grafting walnuts isn't as easy as it sounds. Think I'll stick to fruit trees.

This feller down the road wasn't too bright, I mean his elavator didn't go to the top floor, if you know what I mean,

Well he set out this garden, I stopped by for a friendly conversation one day knowing that he really could't take care of himself..I asked him what he was growing..

Well he quite hadn't figured what he was going to grow yet, So I suggested that he grow what he likes to eat first then try other things, He agreed and said goodbye.

I got busy growing my own veggies and taken care of my place, so it was about a week before I could get back to him. One day i drove up to his place and he was out hoe in hand in the garden.

I stopped and Said hi Leroy, he exchanged smiles and greeted me with a big hello.
I asked what did he decided on in his plantings. He replied yeah I'm growing what I like best, What's that I asked? He stood there straight faced and told me what he planted...Spaghetti.. he said, Like I said Leroy ain't too bright.
