I just came to the realization, several days ago while turning my compost, that my Black Lab dog is becoming my best ally in the garden area. At that time he was digging in the compost and retrieving every Japanese Beetle larvae and eatting it! I knew that he loved to hunt for Tomatoe Hornworms, being able to smell them gave him a much greater advantage than I had. The last two summers have b een great, with him patrolling the rows. Only one disadvantage of him being in the gardens is that he likes a lot of the food I eat, and especially fond of ripe strawberrys and blueberrys. Does anyone else have a "Garden Dog"? Strong

Oh, yeah. My Boston Terrier "helped" me plant grapes last week. She'd grab the plants (prior to planting) and race off into the woods with them. You've heard of "Mother Earth". She's "Puppy Earth". Excellent beast.

I have 2 good garden dogs and 1 bad garden dog. The two good guys stay out of the garden (for the most part) and don't dig in the beds (for the most part) and keep the deer, raccoons and other varmints from eating everything. I have not gotten them to go after insects, though

AWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...great pics....
Our dog is a 135 pound princess....ha...who sheds...ALOT....
the one thing she HAS contributed to the garden is that for the last few years....to deter squirrel and rabbit...we talke all the shedding from brushing her and scatter is around the outside of the garden....worked for us....
though I think here, with woods all around us....we might just be outnumbered this year....

My two dogs chase the deer, cats, and rabbits away. The deer don't seem to be afraid as much as they were, they return as soon as the dogs turn their backs. My choco lab likes all kinds of vegges, apples, and grapes which are bad for him.The only bugs they get after is a fly or horse flies.

Our dogs eat armadillos. Rabbits and stuff are on the menu, too. They love the wild blackberries, plums, persimmons, and all manner of fruits. They keep the deer away, too, which is good for the orchard.
