I want to try a Roma-type tomato called Purple Russian. The catalog states that it has good cold tolerance. Would I have problems raising this tomato in my hot and dry Arkansas summer weather? Or does anyone know which paste tomato would produce well here?

Hi,The Purple Russian produced loads of fruit here in southern Missouri last summer, and did so till late in the season, a real winner for our uses.

I have already grown Roma & Striped Roman this last year(2004) with good success. I'm in Arkansas too just south of Fort Smith. Start Mulching as soon as you can to keep that moisture in. I figure we're in for some hot days the way this spring has been!

I have seen the pictures and descriptions of purple Russian in seed savers and I believe the baker creek catalog. I grow about 200 heirloom tomato plants each spring and sell all but about 25 for my self, I wonder if they would do well in Wyoming elevation 5,120 ft.
I have had good luck with other heirlooms here especially pineapple anf German Gold. I have had mixed results with the Brandywines, I also started some Blondkofpchens to sell they aren't doing too well, all my other plants are towering over them, they must not like it here.
