We finished fencing in our property across the road this passed weekend and discovered the big patch of garlic planted by the original owners from years back(29+)is on our side of the property line :p . I know you don't plant garlic until fall but can you harvest now or spring to use in cooking? :confused: I luuuuuvvvvv garlic! No vampires on me :D

You can cut the tops for "green" garlic any time they're actively growing. Of course, the younger they are, the more tender they are. If you want bulbs, wait until the tops die back by a quarter to a third. But please, do let some go for next year. Do you have any variety information on them? I love this sort of thing!

I think I would dig up a few from the patch. Split the cloves and replant into the veggie garden. Definitely taste some now. What a great surprise!

Sorry,don't know what variety. :o They've been there since we moved out here 29 yrs. ago. We bought property about 5 yrs ago and just now getting it fenced in. :D

wow what a blessing. You could plant them around your fruit trees and rose bushes. Aphids do not like the smell. birds love their seed heads. butterflies love their blooms.
