Hi,
I'm fairly new to the herb world. Does anyone have experience growing herbs in the house during the winter months--including moving them inside from outdoors? I'm especially interested in parsley, oregeno, basil, and bay leaf. Thank you.

I never got around to putting my (potted) basil out last summer so when it started getting cold I kept waiting for it to die...and waiting...and waiting. I had always thought that basil was annual, but apparently not. It is outside (still in a pot) now and doing great. All I did was keep it in a sunny (north facing) window and made sure it didn't get too chilly.

Hi Greenzone,
I am new to this forum and am excited to meet so many kindred spirits. I have been gardening for many years. But I have found that each year is a new adventure. Gardeners are optimists filled with sugar plum dreams and new experiments each Spring. We recently bought this house on a large lot in the city. We think of ourselves as urban homesteaders. I am in the process of building a garden from scratch on a low low budget. I garden as naturally as possible. The planning has been so much fun. Won't be long here in So MO that I will be bringing it into fruition.

Happy Gardening

Question on bringing outside basil inside for winter. Every year that I do that, mine starts going to seed by Feb./March, and sometimes we still get snow/freezes here in subsequent months.
If I don't get dirt swept up (caused by dog knocking over window plants to get to the window) I'll have basil growing in the tatty carpet by the window....

Betty Friedman? Is that who married the Friedman boy from up the street??

Okay, so you want to know if this is still relevant in 2009? I think so. There were a few years where there were no formal welcome threads that I recall? I used to welcome new members on other, smaller forums, but it didn't seem to happen here.
I know that recently there has been a conscious effort to do so.
The only suggestion I might make is, it might be better situated on the Off Topic of What's Happening Boards?!

Other than that, I'm All for it!!! Welcome on.................
