dun.....we had a pond dug last fall and with the winter snow and rains it has about 5 feet to go and it will then be full! Like you, we are soooo excited!!! My husband has dreamed of a pond for many years and now it's a reality. He's been reading about stocking it with fish, planting cattails, putting up a windmill to aerate it, etc.
I'm happy for you!!!
Peace....Izzy

Well, it was a sleep deprived night, but we are fine. Thank you. Luckily, this stuff went around us North and South, just dumping more water in our pond and on our garden. Chickens are happily running around eating worms. Children are happily running around splashing in puddles. I have coffee, so am happy, too.
Yeah, certainly hairy. Giving extra thanks to God this morning for the extra 2 inches.
I bet you were uneasy, too. Bolivar had its own batch of warnings.

We had inch sized hail and lots of wind and branches to pick up this morning. Thankfully no shingles torn off or loss of electricity. That makes Momma cranky heheh.
yep sitting here with a nice hot cup of coffee and thnkful for the soggy yard.

hi, we finally got some rain here,we might have gotten an inch,we are behind about three inchs so far for this year,i had a pond up in michigan and i really enjoyed it after a while, but i wasn't to bright when i first put the fish in,they were real small then but they got big and i allways had a algee problem that i couldn't get rid of,to make a long story short i got rid of some of the fish and the algee problem went away. richard from ky.

When our kids were growing up, they would play in puddles while the chickens ate worms too. But then they'd switch off.

I would love to have a pond. My neighbor had his dug in 1972. It now spread to our property.I believe there is some type of bass in there- they are big. It's very peaceful to hang out there.

Hey, Cliff, if you will soak worms in cornmeal and water, so they eat the cornemeal, then all the dirt all the sand will come out. Then they are real good with spaghetti sauce. Mmmmmm Mmmmm good! Or so they say. :D

Dun you stinker,
get so much fun feeding my worms. I grind up all the fresh food I can find with egg shells and coffee grounds. I grind it to mush and then grind some more so the baby worms won't have to work at it so much. Every one in a while i pull back the mulch to check on them. Worm castings everywhere. It's enough to make you heart sing.

SNOW .... We just moved from South Dakota to Missouri a few months ago, so snow is a four letter word.
We are supposed to have a bit of rain, and maybe some BEEP Sunday / Monday if it is cold enough.
What we like about Missouri so far is that the BEEP is measured in INCHES. :o

We just got our first real rain here in Rutherford County, NC for the first time since we moved in February. Gosh, was it dry. It was welcomed relief. And our internet is actually working today, so it's a good week here so far. :)

Hey SunflowerMeg;We are also getting alot of rain here in Sunny Ca.It rained all day yesterday and all night as well. This is really too late in the year for it to still be raining, but what can you do?All of my seedlings are outside on the upstairs deck and loving all of this.
You'll be happy to know that by noon we were back to Sunshine and clear Blue skies. The storm is moving Eastward.

Very dry here in McDowell County, NC, 8-10" less rain since January than normal.
I'm planting as usual in the hope this trend will not continue.
Edit: The weatherman yesterday said 3 good chances of rain the next 7 days, but this morning he said its looks like dry skies for the next week.

Small world!! Dun, you are from SD, we are from MN. I see you haven't been in MO long....how do you like the heat and humidity?? I DO miss the snow, but there's other good things. We like the longer season and the people are nice; seems life is at a slower pace here, which doesn't hurt anyone, imo.

Hi, chubbyduckie! Small, indeed. I knew a lady called Chubby Chipmunk in SD. She ran a gourmet chocolate shop. The nickname was inappropriate 'cause she was skinny.
I like the humidity for my respiratory system, my hubby doesn't, he grew up in San Antonio TX. My kids miss the sledding and skiing, but not shoveling. We did get some snow this year. And yes, slower paced living is better. We visit the Amish a lot, and see it even slower. They always have time to visit, too. We have a Belgian horse and harness, no implements yet. We cooked on a wood stove last winter, but bought an electric one last month for summer. Trying to find the right blend of technologies. My favorite book is Better Off by Eric Brende.
Oh, and I still have " I can plant corn now? " shock.

It's been raining here now on and off for over a week. I was hoping to get the rest of the garden tilled and the trays of started plants in the ground. But it won't stop raining long enough that I can work the soil.
Even the pigs have had enough of mud puddles. They've gone back into the barn to sleep.
I've got 5 days off in a row, and here it is, Day 2 and I'm already wondering what to do..So much to be done around the farm but the weather won't cooperate. :(

Flowerpower, Snow! I know It's cold outside, But snow in May is not good. I'll take the rain, ty. Good thing you hadn't set your plants in the garden yet.
I guess I had better check the weather channel to see if the weather pattern is coming due north.

Snow in May is not even that unusual here. As long as I don't need to shovel, I can deal with it. A few yrs ago, it snowed 6" right before Mem Day.

It's like that in SD, too. In Lead they used to say "We have two seasons : winter and August." This was the only month it had not snowed in, but now they can't say it because the year we moved there, it snowed in August, too.

The highest peaks in the Southern Appalachians have rarely received snow even in July and in August, not so rare in June and even a 3-day storm accumulating up to 5 feet of snow back in mid-May, 1992.
But, right now here in my part of the foothills, its very dry, and a lot of my gardening efforts this year may not produce much. Weatherman says dry for at least another week, but then it might start raining more than normal, I hope so.

We are not that high up- only 2500 ft. But we get lake effect snow storms from the Great Lakes. As far as I know it has not snowed here in July or August. But early Sept is not uncommon for snow.

Finally, the best rain in about 6 weeks just occurred here on the hill, not a gully washer, maybe a third of an inch.
Hope its not to late for those struggling produce crops planted in April.
Average yearly rainfall here in the foothills of NC is about 55 to 65" and this year its on course to not even reach 30".

Is there anyone here from New Hampshire? We get Fox news from Massachusetts, and they've just shown the damage from the rains over the past three weeks. Not a pretty sight. Many people have had their homes washed away or condemned due to flooding. And here I was feeling sorry for myself not being able to finish my garden on my last weekend off for a month cuz of a bit of drizzle. :o

hi bluelace,
I live in ct, not too far from mrtomato. Yes the rain has stopped and we have weeds, grass up the yin yang! Stopped for a while to dry out, but started again. A lot of flooding and people lost a lot of stuff. One poor guy said on the tv, he would use a pump in his basement but where is the water going to go (he had 4 feet in the basement) the river swelled up so much no place to pump it too!
I always look at things this way... "it can always get worse" and of course you know this one.... someone is always worse off than you are. Someone out there would love to have a plot of land to garden in, all they have is a flower pot.
One of my girlfriends lives in an apartment. Her boyfriend wanted to plant some vegs last year. I invited them, they came. We planted, they showed up once to help out with the weeding and never saw them again till the season was over. LOL. More to it than what they thought, I guess.
Have fun, even in the rain.
good luck, joyce

There is major flooding up here. My friend lives in the valley. Everything she planted in her garden was washing into the lawn. I am at the top of the mtn, so my garden is wetter than usual. I only lost one pepper plant and I think something nibbled on it.

Okay, so the weather has been soooo cold and dismal the past week, that I actually put Wallowaters around my Watermelon plants for fear of them freezing at night...No frost cuz of all the rain, but wearing fleece in June just isn't my idea of a fun time.
At least it's not cold enough to snow...
