Anyone know a source of seeds for yellow pear tomatoes? I've not yet found any this year.

Hi! Harvest Moon Farms & Seed Co. list seeds for Yellow Pear, yellow version of the small pear tomato. Their web address is www.felcopruners.net. Hope this helps. .

I can understand why you want to grow them -- it seems like everyone's Dad grew these in their garden when they were kids!
Only recently did I realize these were heirlooms and that indeed, it is getting harder to find them. The last time I bought them was in 1997 and it was from Gurney's (whoever owned them at that time).
You know what? I hated them! I hated all tomatoes as a kid, but have since grown to love them all. Except yellow pear -- still doesn't taste good to me.

i once grew the yellow pear tomatoes expecting them to be delicious .. they were extremely vigorous plants.. i didnt even stake them that time and was amazed at the diameter the plants grw to.. very heavy yield as well but i was so disappointed in the flavor of them.. not sure if it was something in my soil or site that caused these fruit to be so flat tasting

Hi, everyone, thanks for your comments :). I've grown these for years, and I think Gurneys was the last place I got the seeds from about 6 years or so ago (1999?). Alas, Gurneys seems to carry about half of the variety they used to. I always liked the yellow pears - not sure why, they aren't as sweet, though mine were pretty tasty. There was something about them that I just liked. The vines are quite long, and they are just loaded with the things!
SelfSufficientOne, do you need an SASE? My address is:

I know that you've already found them but if you hadn't they have them at good old Wal Mart . They are one of the Burpees heirloom line.

I was at Wal-Mart just yesterday and didn't see any. I did find the cylindra beets I've been looking for, at least :) But then, I live in a small town a bit off the beaten path, maybe our Wal-Mart does't carry the full selection? I'm also looking for cylindrical onions, but I might have some seeds already - need to get out the wife's collection and compare to mine ;)

Update: Interesting enough, these yellow pear tomatoes are the fastest growing tomatoes I have! I planted several types, roma, cherry, Gurneys vfsomething, and a heirloom, and the yellow pears are easily outpacing the rest.

I had a few 4 yr old seeds. They were from Martha Stewart's Heirloom line. Only 1 plant has survived. But it is the biggest one. It started to flower before I could get it in the ground.

All this talk about beets and yellow tomatoes reminds me of a phase I went through where I grew different coloured veggies. YP tomatoes; golden beets; blue potatoes...
I pickled some golden beets and as I did every year, shared some of my canning with my elderly parents. Well it seems that on a hot summer day they decided to try some. On Ice Cream!!
Even though I had clearly labeled the jars, they thought that they were sliced peaches and that I had made a mistake, LOL.

When I grew my yellow pear tomatoes last year they tasted like candy. That's the only way I can describe them.

We have a bazillion of green YP tomatoes, and the big ones are just starting to ripen. And they are gooood. Ummmm....yellow candy :). For some reason, our other tomatoes are all still green, and we have literally hundreds of them. One week soon they will ripen and I'll have tomatoes coming out y ears.
