Hey Hristo,

What is parching anyway? I looked it up in the dictionary and there was nothing that would relate to corn. thanks.

Hey Hristo;Check out www.nativeseed/search.com Parching corn really is so obscure that you will probably won't find any here.Parching Corn is a type of dry corn predominatly grown by The Hopi indians. It is ground, mixed with water and Dyed Pink(Hopi Red Dye Amaranth). The Slurry is baked on a hot, flat rock and "the Bread"called Piki is rolled up like Fruit leather and eaten for Ceremonial purposes. It has a similar taste to edible Rice paper.ie BLAND.-

I can't directly answer your question (my English is too poor), nor I'm an expert about the parching corn, but you can read about at:

:-) I realize that probably will not find such a seeds, but... nothing to lose. Seeds of some of these varieties can be bought at some Internet seed stores, but unfortunately :-) they do not ship to Bulgaria, where I live.
About the use of the parching corn you described - I want to try different way of cooking. Like those described of Carol Deppe: "The traditional method is simply to heat kernels in a heavy skillet over low heat...", see: http://www.garden.org/subchannels/health/cooking?q=show&id=71&page=4

Hristo, the ungreased hot skillet method is the one used by the midWesterner out here with the organic market/CSA garden where I volunteered a few years ago. It does work, but be careful not to use too high a heat in cooking it.

Hristo,
The latest edition of the Mother Earth News (Apr/May) magazine has an article entitled "Pop and Parch Heirloom Popcorn" in it, page 110. It was a pretty interesting article. It had a different corn than what you asked for as well, Sahuarita offered from Native Seeds/Search.
Don't know if you have access to this magazine or not, but I think it's online as well.
Happy planting!
Debra

Maybe you can check the following link : http://bunnynh.tripod.com/
I sent Tom some Hopi Pink corn about 2 years ago and he is offering packets for sale and he does trades. He is a good trader and honest. I suggest you offer your trade list and let him know what you would like...there should not be any problem with trades to Bulgaria...but, if there is email me and I will talk with him and maybe he will send them to me and I will forward them on to you =). Now I wish I had kept some...along with the Hopi Blue and some others....I can't grow corn in my garden so I gave them to others who could.
Good luck and do let me know if I can help ;)

Hey BG Seeds;I received the seeds from NativeSeed/Search and will be sending them soon.I also ordered from Abundant Life as well, but they had a Major Fire 3 or 4 years ago and currently don't have the Parching Corn That Carol Deppe recommends. If you know of any other source let me know.

Hey Greencap;Don't even get me started. This is one of 8 orders that I received last month. And I am not even counting the order of PI#'s and NSL# seeds that I got 2 weeks ago (All Hot Peppers).Controversy and such.I probably won't even get around to planting them until next year as I'm focusing on Hopi and Pueblo Peppers this year.
You are in Ohio you should check out Tomato Bob.He sends his seeds in the same little zip-lock baggies that Crack dealers use here in S.CA.I know from watching the news. Not from experience.-
