My short growing season is the reason I start my herb seeds inside. I am impatient besides. I figure that the little bit of effort it takes to start inside is worth having herbs sooner and longer than if I sowed outdoors. I have had great luck with basil, thyme, and oregano (both of which survived the winter and are showing some green!) I have tried cilantro, but it bolted, so am putting it out while its still cool (thanks to a suggestion on this forum!) I ran out of seedsling space in the house last year, so i bought a couple of parsley and dill seedlings at the farmer's market and they went like gangbusters. I think they only cost a dollar a piece (gotta love the farmer's market!)
