Dear Gardening Friends,
It's hard to believe, but it's almost time for our 6th annual Spring Planting Festival! It is held April 30 & May 1 at Baker Creek Seed Company in Mansfield, MO. We now only have about two weeks until the fun begins. Our line-up of speakers, musicians, demonstrators and entertainers is truly outstanding this year. We also have by far the largest line-up of vendors ever, for what promises to be one of the best selections of garden plants in the U.S.A.! We expect to have over 5000 visitors from coast to coast. If you've never been to one of our events, you're in for a real treat! It's where gardeners, natural foodies, homesteaders, farmers, hippies and hillbillies unite for two days of fun, food and fellowship--all the time learning from America's top experts and swapping seeds, plants and stories with each other.
Over and over again, visitors say there's no other event like it, and it has recently been mentioned on such networks as Fox TV and Martha Stewart. It has also received much acclaim in regional and national publications.
If it's historic music that tickles your fancy, you're in for a real old-fashioned treat! Our lineup includes legends like cowboy Steve Mitchell. After publication of our catalog, we are proud to add the fabulous western band "Cockleburr" to our already exciting lineup, which includes the very best in western, bluegrass, country and popular music.
If you're into heirloom plants and culture, this is one festival you simply can't afford to miss. After all, tax time is already over, so come join the fun in this celebration of plants, peace and promise! (Well, as you can see, it's about 12am, and I need some shut-eye!)
I just wanted to invite all our friends to another fun event, you won't be sorry! You can find more information about the Planting Fest at our website www.rareseeds.com.
Happy Planting,
Jere Gettle

Sounds great--would love to hear the music and see the plants.
Will the magazine or some of the participants kindly share after the festival what some of the plants and music were, please, for those of us who can't attend this year?

ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!! We'll be leaving here on Fri. Plan to do some Bass Pro shopping on Sat. Don't worry Jere, will save some $ for the festival. Can't wait. Trying to get stuff out of the greenhouse and in the garden before we leave. Even though we have had a mild spring, we are behind in getting things planted. The 90 degree heat and 35 mph wind is not weather to set out tomatoes. Still dry here but has cooled off some. See ya'all next week.

Hey! I will be there!
I have some monster tomatos to sell. They are knee high in one gallon pots! I even have a verigated tomato that came from SSE this year! It is really cool. Got some unusual peppers this year too. Nosegay, Ballon, Fatalli (a habenero type that is hotter than the habenero!!!)
Hope to see all of you there! I will have a booth so come by and see me!
Later!

Say, does anyone here want to meet up at the fest? Maybe we could all meet on the front porch and sit a spell? Thoughts, ideas, suggestions? I know it will be difficult for you vendors, but I'll be stopping by to see you.
Jere, we all know you : )
Cheers,
Mickey

Couple of questions about the festival, will we be able to camp on site Saturday night? And are there showers available? We are really excited about being able to attend for the first time.

50/50 chance of rain. Could ruin the pickin'. Our whole band is going now weather permitting. Everyone cross your fingers.

MEET AT THE FEST! Good idea Bellpepper. Why don't we plan to meet at 11:30 right in front of the store?
I may post a new thread...

Hey Cliff... A 50% chance of rain means that 50% of the forcast area will see rain. ( iffin I member correctly, frum bak in the days ah wus a teachin ground skool ) Lets just say I would have some muckin boots and rain gear handy... and a poncho for the bass. Or is that bass? (as in fish). Might interfere with the pickin, bit not the grinnin...
Of course, the NWS only has a 50% chance of being correct. :D
Hope dun does not melt. :p
(She is made of honey and sugar.... Not the other possible interpretation. :o )

Well HOD you should get a prize or something.
And I might melt too, but for the "other" reason.

Hi Jere, I wish I could go to the Festivale, sounds like a great time and lots of info.Maybe next year I can go .Back in the late "60"s , when my husband would move around with his job, we lived in Columbia Mo. for about "8" mo.We really liked it there ,wish we had stayed .We finally moved to and stayed in central IL.I live near ADM and Staley Co. which use corn and soy beans to make syrups and different foods.
It sure does stink.Any way thanks for a great forum , have a greatyear !
