Victory Garden gets my vote, although I must admit that I don't get to watch it often cuz I work a lot of Saturdays.
Not familiar with most of the others you mention? But then I'd rather spend my time here on the 'net than watching the tube. But I suppose I should do a search for air times and try to watch them before I dismiss them ya think?

I watch Victory garden too. We visited Calloway Garden (where some of it is taped) in Pine Mt GA. Now when there is a segment from there, we say, We been there. I also watch OK garden. It comes from OK state U and seen on OK PBS. We are in KS but so close to OK that we can relate to them. I miss Elliot Coleman's show and Square Ft gardening. I taped a bunch of Mel B's shows. Look at them from time to time.

I don't have TV anymore, but my favorite was Paul James the gardening guy. What a hunk, and so funny.

Illinois Gardener (Public TV, U of I, Champaign, IL), liked Victory Garden until Roger Swain disappeared but lately it's not so good too many formal gardens, there's some on PBS and DIY TV that are OK....

Mrtomato, Now, I am going to let you know how little I know about electronics. Don't know how or where to make copies of VCR tape. I am trying to find someone that can transfer the VCR to DVD. We had to unhook our VCR when we received a DVD player for Christmas. If you can PM me with your email, I will get a DVD copy made for you when and if I get mine. I'm sure I have a grandkid or two that knows how to do that. It is one of those roundtoit things.

hi bellpepper you can hook up your dvd player to your vcr if your vcr is stereo.you need rca cables yellow to yellow white to white red to red. so then you can use both your vcr and dvd player.your vcr must be on and use L1 or L2 thats line 1 or line to then you can use your dvd. i gave away 5 vcr's and 3 dvd players in the last year or so. i give them to the mexican people that come to the laundromat were i work. they all ways bring me food. :)

Does anybody else think that Paul James reminds them of Ned Flanders from the Simpsons? I can't get over the similarities, and keep waiting to hear Paul say "Hey-diddley-ho, neighboroony!" :D
I have my DVR set up to tape Gardening by the Yard, so I can watch it and still get my outside work done! :p Who on earth ever decided to schedule gardening shows during the afternoon, any way?

In northern CA. we get Paul James at 8:30 am Saturday and Sunday so I have dish timed for it but you are right, no repeats except different part of season which they have been doing lately. But he is interesting at times. Abit sucky at times when I really want to learn something specific.

I think Paul James is a hoot. I met him at the Wichita (KS) garden show. I told him that he was the only person I knew that wore combat boots with shorts and sandles with jeans. He said he gets more comments about that than anything else. LOL

Mr Tomato, Would it have been Dick and Jan Raymond? They are from New England; Vermont actually. But they are the only couple that I can think of that might have had a show on PBS?

Elliot Coleman and Barbra Damrosch (spelling?) had a show on PBS. I want to say it was called "Organic Gardening". I remember that show and (the old) Victory Garden were on consecutively. I will occasionally watch VG- not really that thrilled with it.

Hey FlowerPower;I,ll Second That.Elliot Coleman and wife Barbara Damrosch's show was The Best. This is where I learned about pinching the lower leaf stem on the Tomato Plant,so the plant would produce an Enzyme that is lethal to Hornworms.I have been using this technique ever since and it has been 100% effective.-

I think that show was "Gardening Naturally" but I'm not sure. Sure do wish I had it archived. I only ever managed to catch two episodes. I read somewhere that they stopped producing the show because it just wasn't Coleman's "thing". Come to think of it, he DID seem kinda nervous, didn't he?

Hey Boston; You pinch the lower leaf stem, second set of true leaves, hard enough to bruise it but not hard enough to break it.later in the season you will see small hornworms on the plant.Don't pick them off and in a frew days they will all be dead.Barbara Damrosch stated this on their show in the 90's and it has worked since then.I wouldn't use anything else,You wont either.-

ZMan, never heard that about the maters. Sounds interesting.
I found a VG book at a thrift store. It was by one of the original people. I will have to look which man it was. It was from the 2nd or 3rd season. The VG was nothing more than a few beds in the pics. Definitely worth the buck.

Martha Stewart had an episode that featured Elliot and Barbara, it was Great. They had these greenhouses that they could slide so they were growing amazing amounts of the most fabulous looking veggies that I have ever seen. I can honestly say that this episode is what peaked my interest in organic gardening. They have an inn don't they? I think it was called Four Seasons or something like that. If I am ever up that way I will be going there that is for sure.
