Hello,
I planted some pepper seeds a week ago. Ones from BC. (Emerald Giant) They still haven't started growing? Do peppers have a long germination period? I don't really have info this? If something doesn't come up like you think it should when do you replant?

Be patient. My peppers have been taking from 10 to 14 days to germinate. Ideal temp is about 80 degrees for fastest sprouting.

I love sprouting tomatoes and hate sprouting peppers. It seems that peppers seeds and seedlings look for reasons to die while the mater seeds and seedlings want to LIVE!
Like jpro said, make sure that the seed trays are kept very warm. 80 should do it. I do mine on top of my stand up freezer. works great.

Yur right, Peppers seem to take forever and a day to germinate. Mine are finally coming up out of the soil, while the tomatoes, planted at the same time, are 2 inches tall. They all look healthy to, I mix my own seed-soil from sand/compost/ garden loam and have never had any problems with damping off disease, wilt, ect. Do have a problem with renegade mice getting into thje flat and eatting seeds. Strong

I have had luck staring peppers in a wet paper towel. Take a paper towel fold it in half twice and moisten it with water. Put seeds in the middle and fold again. Slide the towel in a plastic bag and leave the end slightly open and put in a warm place. This worked for some seeds that I had that were very old and none of them would start in starting mix. After they sprout carefully transplant them to a pot.

A mouse can turn a beautiful tray of pepper seedlings into a tray of stubs overnight.

FWIW, I always start my peppers two weeks before my tomatoes, so they balance out. That being said, this year my peppers were up within a week! I've never had them germinate so fast, never!

I guess this needs to be done here.
What is it with the gremination rates this year on peppers?
50/50 for me....I think I need to talk to a Stella Natura owner.

Hello .........I use a heating pad on low under my germinating trays this speeds up the process quite abit..... have had tomatoes and peppers sprout within a few days by doing so..........also using a humidty dome helps ..........just a word ......when germinating try using a drop per garden of super thrive..........this stuff works!!!!! good luck and happy gardening......that is a drop per gallon of water when watering......

btw.........use a towel between the heating pad its safe ...also make sure you dont get the pad wet ..........shocking pepper and tomato sprouts are no fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....this is a great germinating shortcut though
