Cliff,
I saw your post in the Herbs section and since I have a knack to derailing the topics of other posters I thought I'd just get your attention here.... :)
You mentioned you play BlueGrass - have you ever been to the pickin' party at the Hinton's? Held here in Alabama near Christmas? Or have you been to the bluegrass convention in Tenn.? If you have - then I KNOW WHO YOU ARE and we CAN find you LOL :D
And us wimmins in the south....we can spit our t'baccy thru our teeth with amazing accuracy

Ok HOD....ya got me there ;)
Can you tell I am an "adopted" southerner?? My FIL tells people....."you'll have to excuse her...she was raised in some other god forsaken part of the country....but she's been here with us for a short time (if 25 years is short) and she got better"

We had talked about going to the IBMAs in Nashville, but they want a pretty penny for that. We mainly play here in southwest and southcentral Missouri.
We're not anyone that anyone would know. Just a bunch of hairy legged countryboys, "with the exception of my Wife who plays bass" who likes to pick and sing.

LOL Cliff...I didn't think you were "famous"...altho' it wouldn't surprise me...not much does any more ;) Although Z has surprised me a couple of times and the line of work he is in surprised me....a little like when I met David Foster for the first time ;) I was just asking because Mae and Jerry have been having their pickin' party for almost 30 years now and they seem to know everyone on earth :D There are one or 2 folks that come every year or so and they are named Cliff so I didn't know if either of those guys were you.
Glad to hear your wife isn't considered one of the hairy legged players

I like your signature on here.
"This we know, the earth does not belong to us; we belong to the earth...We did not create the web of life; we are merely a strand in it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves." Chief Seattle.
Is it anything like;
"This world is not my home I'm just passing through
my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore"

Oh, I LOVE that song, Cliff!!! By the way, do you ever sing at the little red barn by Rogersville?? At least, they used to have music there on weekends, not sure if they still do.

I don't think so. But we are playing in West Plains June 8, 9, and 10th. I think that's the next gig we have.
See, I have a wife who tells me where to go and how to dress, I just show up and sing. <grin>

As far as I know this is just a traditional gospel song from way back when.
This world is not my home, I'm just-a-passing through
My pleasure and my hopes are placed beyond the blue
Many friends and kindred have gone on before
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore
Oh Lord you, know, I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home, oh Lord what will I do
Angels beckon me to heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world amymore
Over in gloryland there'll be no dying there
The saints all shouting victry and singing everywhere
I hear the voice of them that's gone on before
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore
He's expecting me, htat's one thing I know
I fixed it up with Jesus a long time ago
He will take me through though I am weak and poor
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

Yeah....we wives do that sometimes, LOL.
We moved from West Plains a few years ago...saw Gene Watson there. Hardly anyone showed up tho, because they really didn't advertise.

mobi, if your sister finds out who did that song, please post it here. I've been searching for awhile, and I can't find who did originally.

I found this.
This World is Not My Home
In 1946, the Stamps-Baxter Music and Printing Company, America's premier publisher of gospel music, published J.R. Baxter, Jr.'s, "This World is Not My Home," a tribute to the Christian belief in the ultimate home of heaven. This is the song:
Dying is but going home
This World is Not My Home
JR Baxter, Jr.
1946, Stamps-Baxter Music and Printing Co. in Sentimental Songs.
This world is not my home, I'm just a-passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
My Savior pardoned me from guilt and shame I know
I'll trust His saving grace, while traveling here below.
I know He'll welcome me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
I have a precious mother up in glory land
I don't expect to stop until I clasp her hand
For me she's waiting now at heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore
The saints in glory land are shouting victory
I want to join their band and live eternally
I hear the sweetest praise from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

Hey Chubbieduckie and Cliff, I went to County Sales.com and called them up they are out of Floyd Virginia 540-745-2001,and talked to a lady named Lois. She said they have on cd this song by 3 different groups: BlueGrass Band , Stanley brothers ,and Blue Highway. I also talked to this guy named Kris King who said the song was a public domain meaning that it is a very old! 1 or 2 hundred years old with no known artist and as You mentioned Cliff It was first published in 1920 by the Stamps Baxter publishing house. :) mobi

I thought JR Baxter, Jr. wrote it and had it published in 1946. I knew it was in Public Domain.
Oh well, I'm sure Mr. King knows more then I do. It dosn't take much. <grin>
