I don't think I can take the new federal I.D. card, in the form of a driver's license. It is too close to Revelations for me. I am considering various forms of alternative transportation. I live 14 miles from town and am an early retiree; consequently, I'm in better shape than most as I don't have to work. Is anybody else in the same position? What are your mitigation plans?

good question.. For very different reasons I too am concerned about national ID's and the near complete confiscation of freedom by the state. That said, my own plans, which sadly are not near term, are comprised mostly of self-sufficiency. The less that I have to rely upon others the less likely I will run afoul of the gestapo.

We may be a bit too late to protect our national idenity. If you have a social security card, you and yours are well known to a lot of people, not just the government. I tried one time to get a credit card without giving my SSN. No luck.
I would propose as an idea to consider, that instead of a national ID number, that we have a SSN that is like a password. One that could and should be changed periodically. The new number would be given only to those who mandate knowing by law - IRS and Social Security Adm. Sure, it would be proliferated more broadly, in time, just like the old one, but then, we could change it again. I am totally against implanting an ID chip (medical or otherwise) under everyone's skin, and against a national ID driver's license. Unfortunately, we can run, but we cannot hide anymore, at least not for very long.

The problem is that those who "by law" have access to the number are the most notorious with regard to abuse, and the most likely to abuse any power that they have usurped. Also all the government would do is dictate that others are also "by law" allowed to reap benefit from the taking of your freedom.

For those interested in gardening, self-sufficiency, and freedom check out Backwoods Home magazine. The editor is too much of an apologize for the military for my own tastes but in other regards the magazine is worthwhile.

Others to check out with regard to National ID include Wendy McElroy and Carl Watner:
