    (part 3)

Please also tell him we have plans for a Breeders Credit sort of program, and are keeping track of how many seed packs we sell of his (and Mushroom's, and Carol's) varieties, and once we are profitable we intend to send a portion of the income from of the seed packs back to the breeders.

Well, let us know if and how we can help you. We are really busy, having just moved on to our own (leased) farm. We are now attempting to grow 18 acres of grains and dry beans (they're seeds, after all!) for local markets to pay the bills. This in addition to all of the seed grow-outs and other seed company stuff.

I don't want to sound new-agey, but i must say that my experience has been that when a person busts their ass working for something, and has positive intentions for the greater good, The Universe Provides.

May this be the case for you and for Tim.

    All the best,

(i had to cut my message in three because it was too long this is part 2)

i felt compelled to join the forum just to let you know that there is support out there for what you are trying to do. Andrew and I at Adaptive Seeds would be happy to contribute in whatever way we are able... (Though not money yet, as we are still not paying our bills from our little seed company).

Please pass on to Tim, that we are dedicated to preserving all of his varieties that we are able to get our hands on (this includes requesting them through SSE members), and we would be happy to send him back seed if and when he wants it. A few of the things Andrew got from him in 2005 expired (zero germ on the artichoke, and the sweet corn only germinated 10 seeds, but we saved them anyway), but we keep looking for them and other of his projects from other sources.

    Hi Silver,

I just read through your thread about PSR 37. It had lots of good information in it.

Then I got to the part about your potential future endeavor with Tim, and I really got so excited for you and for him and for all of the possibilities that are out there for you and for humankind and others who eat...

I was reading the thread aloud to my husband, and on that posting i must say we both were just thrilled to know of another kindred spirit... though maybe your vision is a bit more broad (or deep?) than ours. or at least mine.

so then of course i read Carolyn's response. And i'm sure she didn't mean it, but it was pretty deflating. All of those concepts don't distill well into a few short sentences. Especially when you're just beginning to develop the Hows from the Whys.

Silver, I am in the process of pulling my head out of my rear and send you seeds. Next fall I can send you walking onions and Jerusalem artichokes, if you still need them. They should do well on your untended land. Can't find your addy in my pm's--send it to me and I'll get this out.

About the only thing I found that comes from the southwest and therefore is assumed to have drought-tolerant or related traits, is some Cocopah Sweet corn orig from NSS, grown out by our grower one generation, I think, but showing off-types--might be an interesting, stirred-up mix. lemme know if interested...

Plant breeding, and learning to account for variables in a given location, offer us our best hope at feeding ourselves in truly sustainable ways. We have the knowledge, and tools. What if the ways we farmed built soil, and water tables instead of draining them? Leaving an oasis in our wake rather then deserts.
