Garden Enemy Insect Photos...

This thread is for anyone who wants to post pictures of the bugs we all hate:)

The enemies of our gardens that attack our beautiful plants...

Please feel free to post your pictures and share any comments that you might have.

I will be updating pictures to this thread and the other thread for beneficial insects...

I feel that both threads will serve as an important tool for many to observe...

Thank you!

Re: Garden Enemy Insect Photos...

This is the evil "Squash Vine Borer"

The Squash Vine Borer is dangerous to all squash and is stealth! It is extremely skittish! Most people have never seen one! It is a moth that lays an egg at the base of your squash plant. The egg hatches and the larvae lives inside the squash vine stem at the base of your squash plant. Look for a hole and debris around it... take a razor blade and slice above and below the hole almost an inch in each direction. When you slice be sure to stay in the middle of the stem and to be traveling with the grain of the stem, lengthwise... this will kill the worm the borer inside and your plant has a good chance at recovery.

Leaf footed plant bug. Pierce and suck juices from fruit and vines. Nymphs run in herds of typically 30 or so and are orangish/red. Sorry best image I have. Will update when I get a pic with the new camera.

Check out the beneficial insect thread:) It's a Kodak "Easyshare" camera... only 5 megapixels... In the future I would love to invest in a higher quality "real" camera... I like to take pictures but I know nothing about higher end cameras or how to use them:) I would like to take a photography class... I might have to check into that one day:) It's fun!

I am glad you like the pics... I am hoping to see if anyone has pictures that they would like to add... if nothing else maybe we can get some people out in the gardens taking pictures for the 2011 growing season:)
