The Heirloom Gardener started out glossy, as some of you recall. In Summer 2004 it was changed to recycled matte' newsprint in an effort to make it more natural and ecologically sound. Another benefit of newsprint is that it was slightly cheaper than glossy thick paper.
The past two issues, however, have been inexplicably slick again. It beats me whose idea it was, and why. Wasn't the newsprint just fine?

I'm surprised at the low total response level, but so far 3-to-nothing in favor of newsprint!

I think it is called keeping up with the competition, Jeff.

glossy and purty pictures make it attractive if it's gonna be sitting on a stand in a store trying to appeal to the general public. It'll sell it when it wouldn't sell as newsprint. But a magazene about old times in the garden might be quite alright with an old fashened look to it. I like it fine in newsprint.

You may not be able to use them as mulch in the garden, but they recycle just fine (as far as I know).

I like the glossy just a little better. My only complaint is that I read it all up too fast
I'm still looking for this issue's article by GreenZone. Those are always the best... |

Mother Earth News has great info but they have gone so far away from what it was decades ago. Now saying that one must keep up with the times and competition too. I say glossy cover and news print on the inside.

It doesn't really matter to me. I'm fine with whatever Jere and Emilee think is best to make the magazine a long term success. Thanks Jere and Emilee and all the others who make The Heirloom Gardener a top rate magazine.
