I noticed that I still had a bar of some locally made soap that I'm going to include with my giftee's Hollarday booty (a valuable prize, or gain), and a crocheted dish cloth/washcloth that a church lady made that features my giftee's main colors. Finding all sorts of stuff I forgot I had, which I think will suit my giftee.

I am known for disliking buying gifts or naming children (embarrassing story about how long it took me to name my second child). But I'm going to contemplate, let the magic percolate, and intuit a fun gift box for my giftee. He has to be a little patient though. Percolation takes a wee bit of time...

The surprise for me was finding some of my giftee's colors in my quilt stash. Wasn't sure I would. I did thrown in some of my fav pieces, which did include a yellow knit with some whimsical dogs, a flannel with some dogs, and some with horses. I hope my giftee will like that I included my two fav animals.

Oh the pressure! I hope the magic happens! I am sending messages to the Muse, to grace me on my giftee's behalf...
One time I did make a magic gift box for my still teenaged son. He left home with his new inappropriately older girlfriend, told me I wouldn't hear from him for a while. I didn't hear from him for 6 months! Meanwhile, a friend of hers found out that they were not in contact, and let me know where he was and what he was doing. In the sticks of New Mexico, no phone, no physical mailing address, either! But I could get a package to the local post office. I timed it so I knew they'd get it before Christmas, of course ordering them all over the box not to open until the day. I put together an inspired box full of meaningful gifts and trickets, and special (always healthy ) treats, with little cards and funny notes. It had frankincense and myrrh in a wooden box, and a jewlery box made out of cinnamon sticks and cloves, with earrings and bindis inside (for the girlfriend), a childhood book he used to love but hadn't laid eyes on in a decade and a half, a wooden boomerang reminding him to come home, an ancient compass so he could find his way anywhere--all kinds of things. But the best part was, he still brings it up sometimes, how it made Christmas for them, all alone, to get this surprise box of endless little wonders. Patting my Mom back!My daughter was 11 1/2 months old before I found her name. She was just "Baby" for 3 months (before I took a temporary name). Not naming your baby really freaks people out! Perfect strangers would walk up to me on the street, disturbed and urgent, because they heard she had no name. If I asked my mother what did she think about a certain name, next thing I know, aunts or my grandmother were sending mail addressed to that name. Wish I'd saved all those envelops for the baby book! I felt rushed with my son--he was a week old when I named him and wasn't too sure about my choice--so I was determined to wait as long as it took to choose my daughter's. After another funny story or two, I chose her name and she approves! Now to choose the perfect gifts for my giftee...
