NO GMOs!!!

We lost a dear friend, Margez, last month. I wanted to get as many facts as possible before posting. Marge passed of natural causes somewhere around June 2. She was alone, except for her beloved dogs and her rescue fosters and was not discovered immediately, so the exact date is not known.
Marge loved gardening and many of you know her through gardening exchanges and seed swapping. She was kind and generous. Her only family seems to have been the animals she dedicated herself to, and her "friends that live in the box". After Lorna's stroke, Marge generously took in four of Lorna's dogs to foster and find homes for. Lydia and Isobel had been adopted at the time of Marge's death. Rose and Aziza needed special attention after the trauma of losing Lorna and Marge was doing wonders with them. At the time of her death, she owned or was fostering nine dogs that needed a loving home. Marge loved animals so much that she would even buy abused animals to get them safely from their abusers, even if it meant sacrificing her own needs. She was a truly warm hearted and generous, an avid gardener and a good friend. I miss our written exchanges and our phone calls. Fire and Rescue rounded up the nine dogs in Marge's care and took them to the town pound. This is not a no kill shelter! Genny Gen jumped right in and found a local lady who had formerly owned a no kill shelter (and was a friend of Marge's) that said she would get Rose and Aziza from the pound - and to honor Marge, she would rescue all of the dogs that had been in Marge's care. Through the concentrated efforts of that wonderful lady, Carol, the Superior town supervisor, many volunteers, and a very helpful deputy -all 13 of the dogs that were currently in the pound were rescued and moved to Carol's. This wonderful lady took in those dogs, even though she had been forced to close her shelter due to lack of funding. It was truly a generous gesture and a great tribute to Marge. As of two days ago she had placed five of the dogs - the puppies and the lap dogs. Lorna's beloved Rose and Aziza have now been through this trauma twice and Carol is giving them special attention until we can move them or she finds forever homes for them. Marge has no next of kin...no family to claim her body and give her a memorial service. To honor her and her devotion to animal rescue, a memorial fund has been established to help Carol take care of Marge and Lorna's dogs. Funds are greatly needed. The address is: Carol Dodge 232 Kellner Ave. Superior, AZ. 85173 attenton: Margez Memorial Fund

Rose (Lorna's favorite), with Carol. She has that sad look in her eyes again. Marge had really bonded with her. She was giving her herbal supplements for depression and she had started to come around - was even playing with the other dogs a little. Rose needs to be someone's lap dog - she craves love and needs to trust someone. During our last conversation, Marge told me that she was going to keep Rose, so she would not have to go through the trauma of being moved again. Marge had fallen in love with her. Her tag reads: "If you find me, I am lost. Please call Marge."
![]() Aziza .....healthy, happy to be at Carol's with her other friends. High energy and needs a place to run! Marge had resocialized her and she was ready to find a good forever home. But Zizi, too, had pulled at Marge's heartstrings and she was only going to let her go if she found the perfect home for her. The fact that these two came from Lorna, automatically gave them a special place in Marge's heart.

This guy is Sparky, Marge's special fur baby. She paid some jerk $100.00 for him, so she could save his life. He was in the desert, on a short chain with practically no shelter, very little food, and often without water - and his "owner" would beat him and kick him. Rather than get into an altercation with the man,and risk more danger to the dog and herself, Marge bought him and nursed him to being a healthy, happy part of her family. Carol helped Marge with this dog and even kept him for Marge for several months. Sparky knows Carol and thinks he should stay with her. Carol is going to keep him!
![]() Some of the awesome volunteers that built shelters and bathed and checked over the dogs when they came from the pound with their new friends.
