I read a lot that many say cowpeas are great. Aren't cowpeas a general term for different peas like black eyed peas and crowder peas? I do love crowder peas and was wondering if I could impose on someone to turn me on to some crowder peas to grow. I wonder how popular field peas are with people that frequent markets. Thanks.

I grow a variety called Red Ripper. Sandhill has a variety with the same name but is a smaller pea (bean) and is difficult to shell. It has become almost like a weed. The one I like has huge pods and and large beans. They might be popular in a market depending where you live. These are extremely productive. I bought the seeds from Dr David's Bradshaw who is a retired professor at Clemson University. He collected regional heirloom seeds. He is no longer selling seeds but someone else now sells some seeds from his collection. I love crowder peas and could live off them, sweet potatoes and chard.

To me Red Ripper is the best tasting of all cow peas
They need support as they can climb 8 plus feet and very easy to pick and shell Baker Creek has them and SESE has the Big Red Ripper The one listed by Sand Hill is a imposter |
