Cayenne Pepper.
I had raccoons digging up plants...nothing edible about them so heaven knows why they bothered. I found online someone recommended cayenne pepper. I sprinkled it around and they left them alone from that point on. I don't know how this would work with a pear tree...but maybe your corn. |

Squirrels will rob you of your pears, too. Not as bad as a raccoon, though. But those "little rats with blow dried tails" can really do some damage to a pear tree.

Ah Rosie, you are too funny! Little rats with blow dried tails! Made me laugh! But I too lost every peach on my two trees this year. Could be squirrels raccoons too. I think it is time to begin harvesting squirrels. There are just too many! Thanks to all the folks who feed the birds....thus also feeding the squirrels and coons. In fact, I worked for a few months at a fancy dancy cabin rental doing housekeeping. We were told to keep the bird feeders filled so that the guests could watch the raccoons and squirrels eat....he even told the guests the raccoons were tame...fool. Wait til he gets sued when a raccoon bites someone. Glad I don't work there anymore.

A single squirrel can strip a fruit tree in a matter of days.
Crows are also pretty hard on them.

When I was young, my grandfather had several pear trees. Those tree trunks had tin wrapped around the bottom of the trunks up about 3-4 ft up so the coons couldn't climb them. Didn't always work, but for the most part kept them out of the trees.

Maybe a surveillance camera is in order for next year.
