The knee pads are at Home Depot or Lowe's. They are jointed and have 2 straps to hold them on. They are really comfortable and don't slip down when you walk. Sounds like I'm talking about a girdle or something

OK ,

My update on the tools ...

Yes the cheapo dollar tools are still amazing me , No I hven't been able to detrroy them yet.

but , ...

The Big Grip Knife is FANTASTIC !!! I haven't used a tool this much EVER !!! it is truly AMAZING !!!

The only modification to the knife I have made is cleaning up the edges on a bench grinder as it comes as Chinese very rough cut edges.

Now here's , In My opinion a weird drawback ... When it arrived it was in a cheap disposable plastic form-fitting thing for retail display that included a plastic gel tip-guard ... so I russle around in the box , and no sheath ( I wasn't expecting one , but a guy can dream ! ) so I called The on-line Hardware store where I bought it and asked if they had a sheath for this thing , "cause it's BIG & SHARP , and someones' probably going to get hurt , and it's probably going to be me ! "

They said No they didn't sell sheaths there , so I asked , do you sell knives or other garden tools there , Yes , but no sheaths for any of those either ... hmmm ... OK , so they suggested calling their sister Company Gerber Knife co . They had the same story , well we sell knives but no sheaths ... hmmm ...

So call the local Sporting Goods store , same thing ... what the ???

Both Gun & knife stores , WalMart & Home Depot & ACE ... same stories

I'm thinkin' let me get this straight everyone is willing to sell you a knife , but if you want to protect it and you from harm , well you are on your own !

So I go in to a Shoe Repair shop to see if they could fashion something out of a spare scrap of leather , they said , " Oh we haven't fixed shoes for over 2 years , we were losing money in that business " ... OK at this point I was really bummed out , and ... I was obviously obsessively curious WHY no one carried sheaths for big sharp things , That seems so very odd to me ... That would be dumber that selling a Guitar without a case ... The Gal said , wait a minute , I know , hold on , she went out to her trash can and got me an old boot , handed me a couple pieces of rawhide shoelace for $3.00 and said you could "make-your-own" ( LOL ! yeah , recycle = Green = Save the Planet ! = WooHoo ! )

So I thought about it for like 3 seconds and said YUP ... I borrowed a leather-punch hole maker thingie from the horse-ridin' neighbor and ...

I made this in about 30 minutes ... The handle pull-up strap centered = becomes a built-in belt-loop ... = SWEET ! I think I'll put some cheap hippy beads on the leather strips hangin' off the bottom ... anyhow I solved my own problem for 3 bucks , and it turned out pretty good !

Space, yours looks a little newer than mine.

Glad you like it! I'm happy I could suggest it. You're right, it spends WAY more time in my hand than any other tool in the garden.

The rubber only came off the grip after it was mauled viciously by a dog, and the rusting is due to it living outside for well over a year. I can't even remember when I bought it, it's at least two years old...

I certainly appreciate it ! This is the best tool thingie ever ! I spent all day yesterday with it ...

The Sheath Idea was pretty good , it was with me everywhere I went , and the super long leather ties hanging down were long enough to tie around my leg ... My wife was laughing at me , said I look like a walking ad for Fiskars' with their knee-pads on the Big Knife on my right their nippers on my left a set of neon-yellow & black Gloves and my huge Farmer-Dan Hat on ... quite the sight to behold !

I used it to thin out plants and that forked tip is AWESOME , I bent over the stalks on 4 Broccolli and targeted the 3 that were the weakest looking and just shove forward ! Very efficient , I transplanted flowers fron 6-packs , excellent ! I used it to seperate root balls on a patch of Aloe Vera Cactus , worked flawlessly , The only thing that it didn't do as well as another tool is cutting into manure bags , a razor-blade knife is still king for that IMO .

I am very pleased with the design of this tool !, I think I'll have to buy another one and frame it on the wall ! LOL !

You know, a few minutes with one of my other favorite tools, my Dremel sharpening kit, could probably fix that up... but to me, the blade's kinda big and I use it too much to put that kind of edge on it.

They have a sheath that looks almost exactly like the one you made at our local garden store ... I've thought about picking one up, but since my garden's so small, I haven't had a real reason to yet...

I'm sorry for boring you guyz with multiple postings on this matter ... BUTT ,

DUDES ! ( well and Dudettes ) ...

THIS THING IS TOTALLY AMAZING !!!

I absolutely can NOT believe that I have found such a perfect tool for Gardening work ... I now use it for EVERYTHING I CAN THINK OF !!!

The concept is so simple ... I hope the guy that invented it is sitting on a beach somewhere with BIG drinks with LITTLE umbrellas in them ...

Hey, Space, you'd be interested in this blog post --

http://www.northcoastgardening.com/2...rowels-review/

I actually wrote Genevieve the week before she wrote that blog entry. She was reviewing tools at another gardening site that I read, and I suggested she try the garden knives if she hadn't already. She wrote back to ask permission to use my post -- so she's read your comments, too, SpaceAge! -- and she also added the hori hori in there as well, which I hadn't heard of.

I've been giving mine quite the workout recently. Last Sunday, I spent about six or seven hours digging the Curled Dock out of my backyard, and ended up with one hell of a sunburn for my troubles... but when my pickaxe wasn't in my hands, the fiskars knife was!

Wink Re: I-Dig These ... I think ... ? ...>m

Nice Audio ...???

I found it fascinating that all of the points that she she thought were negatives are totally positives !

1.) I sure hope that the forked end is cutting through stuff , ... uhhh that's why it's on there !

2.) Sharpening both sides took me about 1 minute total ... perhaps less , just press against a grinding wheel and move back & forth a few times ... hmmm ... that was tough ...

3.) OK , it's NOT made out of Stainless Steel ... LOL ! neither are ANY of any Garden tools I have ever owned or seen in my 54 years of life ! This is NOT brain surgery here , we are killing stuff with brute force and dangerous tools ! and ... oh by the way ... for under 15 bucks and almost half of that in shipping fees it is an awesome deal ! I sure 'ain't gonna' pay 35 bucks for a steak knife I can get at a Dollar store ...

4.) The "Missing-Sheath" is my ONLY complaint , and I believe I have covered that at length ...

Cool Re: I-Dig These ... I think ... ? ...>m

Ohhh ...

And I forgot to mention ,

since my Incubator is about 30 > 45 days behind the June 1st Farmers Market opening , I had to be a wuss and buy ~75 Tomatoe plants from the local independent nursery guy ,

There is absolutely no finer tool made for transplanting stuff ... ! I really mean that .
