Wouldn't surprise me any if this becomes the new cheap perferred treatment for chronic pain under rationed care.
I am even amazed that money was spent studying swearing. ![]() Swearing Can Ease Your $#??//* Pain Monday, July 13, 2009 9:32 AM By: Belinda Goldsmith Cut your finger? Hurt your leg? Start swearing. It might lessen the pain. Swearing can make you feel better because it can have a "pain-lessening effect," according to a study published in the journal NeuroReport. Researchers Richard Stephens, John Atkins, and Andrew Kingston of the psychology school at Britain's Keele University set out to establish whether there is any link between swearing and physical pain. http://www.newsmax.com/health/sweari...mo_code=833F-1

My 6 year old cries and complains endlessly about small physical pains.
I should teach her a few words. <laughing> or tell her it is ok to use them. Try teaching her circumstantial appropriateness. She is a smart one. Wonder if I could? School calls, has me come in, there is my daughter in the principals office, broken arm, and they say "your daughter wont stop swearing" and I say back "of course, it is because her arm hurts. Arent you aware of the palliiative effects of swearing? It helps. Dont you people keep up on current neuropsycological research?" and then look at them like they are all idiots while I usher her out of the office to take her to the urgent care to get casted. Hmm. Now, not teaching her when to swear seems like a selfish thing simply not done to save me the trouble of having to deal with authority figures. Going to have to think on that one. Tom |

Wonder if this would work on a major migraine?

i was always told cussing was for those who couldn't think of better words. Pain is a part of life. Pain teaches you something. Short term pain only hurts until it goes away.

And long term pain only hurts until you die, I'm going off to beat my toes with a hammer to learn a little lesson about life.

Sometimes something can be done for long term pain, but is cussing really necessary?

LOL Funny story. Yesterday my girls came up to me and said, "Mom, is daddy going to the bad place?" (7yo says, "You know, the one with 2 L's that I won't say.") I respond, quite dismayed, "No, he's not! *blah blah blah* Why would you ask that?"
"Well, sometimes he says ____, and stupid." *sigh* "Sometimes people mess up and accidentally say bad words. God forgives them, and stupid is not really a bad word, it's a medium bad word." *confusion abounds* "There are impolite words, medium bad words, and really bad words. ****, dumb and stupid are meduim bad words. You can say them at home as long as you're not being mean to anyone, but you'll probably get in trouble at anyone else's house. So, you can't say them out in public." *grin* "What are the really bad words???" Naturally I told them that I cannot tell them what those words are. My poor kids! I can't just give them cut and dry answers. I think it's bizarre to have certain words in any language that are off limits, and that off-limits list seems to be growing steadily. LOL Sometimes, "****" will do, say with a hammered finger....stub your toe just right, though...and we've got to pull out the serious pain killers. *wink* (who funded that study? wierd way to spend cash)
