Mom needs to take care of herself, just as much as she takes care of her child - Mom needs to be healthy to care for him, and the other children. There is nothing that makes a parent feel more helpless than a sick child, but you are giving him what he needs to get better. Sending warm thoughts and cyber hugs....

Suse, is it confirmed Lyme's or Mono--?

Not yet. We have to wait til next week.

But I'm calling the doc again, the poor kid woke up in the night with such a bad headache (on the top of his head), he couldn't move.

Lyme's usually comes with rash and joint pains, the headache is a bit of a mystery to me, but can come from many quarters.
Lab results will confirm or rule out both Lyme's and Mono.
Usually only takes about 3 days to get results back here, sorry you are having to agonize.
Keep on top of temp readings.

No rash that I can remember.

But I did have one kid that got a Purpura Rheumatiod fever with those symptoms. Could that be reated to Lyme's or Mono in any way? His granny had the same thing, both had it twice and both finished with a heart murmer. And I just know that these things must be related.

Purpura Manistova can mean a lot. Most often with infections, and Lyme's is one.

Not always, the rash isn't present in a lot of cases. Headache is no surprise, this is common. Lab, you might be surprised how the ELISA and Western Blot don't show that somebody is positive. I would not be wasting time with a test in a tick endemic area. I would be treating based on clinical signs.
