Yes, schooling is wayyyyy too expensive. And it is the responsibility to those that take out loans to pay it back. I, personally, don't think that 18 year olds go into borrowing school loans with enough education about them. I remember when I got my school loan and got to school, moved in, and then had to watch a mandatory video about school loans. ummm . . . should have been shown BEFORE I signed up and got to school--not that I was mature enough to understand it completely at the time. Kids are idiots about money, most of the time, and need to be aware of what they are doing--and the gravity of their actions. When you've got thousands and thousands of dollars at stake--they can't truely comprehend what that means. |

sorry just because you are a vet doesnt make you right about all things , the protesters know there are professional protesters there and know who the are but still stand with them , look at it this way if you know a friend of yours is a robber / burglar / rapest would you still have coffee with them ?Or would You put distant between them and yourself , remember most poeple will judge you by who you are friends / run with , right or wrong thats life . protesting can be good if done with a true grassroot movement , look at the tea party its a great movement but gets slamed ever day .reporter asked 3 different protesters what they were protesting 2 didnt have an ideal , 1 old guy (my age ) SAID AND I QOET its a happening man its just cool ( I am sure he was just a old hippie reliving his pass lol

I knew about budgeting before 18, maybe because I moved out quite early and was atypical, but perhaps it would be better if kids learn more about everyday economics.

yes, they should possibly defer their college experience, and I definately think they need to learn more about everyday economics. Economics in America has changed rapidly within the last 40-50 years and imo, too quickly for americans to keep up and be well educated about what they are doing. My husband and I have been taking Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University course, and the information we've been learning has been eye opening. I feel very blessed that we've made some good decisions over the years--because there are MANY in our generation that have made extremely poor decision, and it's no wonder with the changing of economics, financing and banking in america.

Let's all talk, not be getting an ugly on- there is no ideas exchanged when everyone is not listening but insulting. I don't agree with a great many on here most times, but I can learn from them and try my hardest to respect their viewpoint. If I, the original sarcastic wench of the ages can try, so can everyone else please try. There is so much life experience on this board and knowledge, all we could share even if not agree with. And, no, I am not medicated, LOL!!!!

Our education system is screwed up in so many ways. Why does it take 12 years for someone to become a brain surgeon? It is a skill that could probably be learned through an apprenticeship. The first four years are just a total waste of time and money. The second four are to learn things that will never be used in brain surgery as are half of the last four. That leaves two years of residency working with other brain surgeons where the Dr. actually learns to crack a skull and remove a tumor.

I would like to see good vocational schools make a comeback, too. Those skills are needed.

I have an engineering degree and taught part time at a vocational school in Indiana. I had no teaching degree so that would be illegal in a public school in most places but I was a very good teacher in my field. My students did well and the school was disappointed when I moved away.
