I have five vines hanging full of big green tomatoes but none seem inclined to get ripe. Three of the vines are seven feet tall- honestly! They are a foot taller then their six ft tall cage. What factor tells the tomatoes to get ripe?

Time.
It can take weeks for a tomato to get ripe once it reaches full size. They make you practice patience!!

I have Eva Purple Ball, Granny Cantell, Hazel, Striped Roman and a mystery tomato that is very ruffled and I can't guess what it may be. I've never seen, what surely are full size green tomatoes, hang on the vine so long with no indication of any getting ripe. I've grown Eva and Roman once before but the other are new to me. The longest period of the year is between the time we see the first tiny green tomato and when it finally gets ripe!

It could be the Mayan Calendar? Kidding. mine are jsut now starting to turn. and jsut a few at that. If tehy dont start to ripen any faster they maybe picked green... since these army worms are starting to eat them. i spent hours today searching for them from the small small to over a inch. these tomatoes have been grown and green for overr a month now. this year dose seem to have late ripe tomatoes. yes last year i had ripe tomatoes inm june among other veggies. i did already have my squash and zuccs.
