Spiderweb like stuff on the acorn squash

I have a mystery, at least to me. We have harvested about 15 acorn squash and have them stored in a fairly cool spot in our house. They have developed a spiderweb like substance on them. Some nearby zukes have developed the same thing. Does anybody know what is causing this? There is no evidence of spiders or any other insect.

Spider mites. I had the same thing happen to a bowl of squash we had sitting on the counter. Wash them all thoroughly with soapy water, it will kill the mites. Pay particular attention to the stem ends, where they can hide out. Afterwards, make sure they have good air circulation around them, and check them again in a couple days for signs of webbing.
